Lowest price ever according to 3 humps. For the money, if you're looking in this range I'd go with the Echo 590. It has a magnesium crankcase instead of the Ranchers plastic clamshell.

Lowest price ever according to 3 humps. For the money, if you're looking in this range I'd go with the Echo 590. It has a magnesium crankcase instead of the Ranchers plastic clamshell.

Every time I have looked at the 460 I have assumed it was a consumer saw. Obviously the CS590 is too, but it's based on the CS600P. And in practice, I haven't found myself ever needing anything this large, so it's mainly academic to me and my CS490. Now cue the pitchforkchainsaw-waving mob of brand name loyalists.

The CS490 is a great saw and very capable. Echos are the Toyota of small engines, they'll run forever.

the 590 is heavy. I have one, and use it with a 27" bar. the rancher is lighter but at the expense of plastic parts. I'll stick with my cs590.

I'm hardly a chainsaw aficionado but 2 years ago had a need for something big and beefy, or at least beefier than my existing 14" Kobalt electric or 18" Poulan, and bought this same saw locally on sale. All I can say is that it fit the bill; it was large enough and powerful enough to get through almost a dozen sections of large trees (pine and popular mostly) that came down in a huge storm and saved me a ton of time and headache trying to work through them with my smaller saws. I have zero regrets over having purchased this saw.

I'm somewhat of a chainsaw aficionado at this point. I've got three gas saws and three electric, and they all have their place. A 60cc saw is the sweet spot if you only want to buy one and actually plan to work it.

Early on, I thought my Echo 490 (50cc) was a beast, but honestly an electric would've handled what I was doing back then mostly trimming and maintaining a huge live oak.

These days it's normal for me to drop five or six trees on a weekend, and that's where the bigger saws shine.

Once you run a real 60cc saw, you understand the difference immediately. The RPM, the torque, cutter size the way it holds power under load my Echo 590 Timber Wolf is my go‑to and cuts hardwood like butter. My father‑in‑law has the Husqvarna 460, and it's a great saw, but it doesn't have the same beefy construction or the extra horsepower the Echo brings, even though they're both in the 60cc class (or just under, in the Echo's case).

Both saws are great, personally I'd pick up a lightly used/open box 590 for $280-320 off fb in my area.

Electric saws are great for light trimming/limbing, for someone who can't wrestle a big saw, or for freeing your main saw when you've pinched the bar. But for any real felling or bucking, they just feel like a toy compared to a proper gas saw.

My last consumer grade Husqvarna got harder and harder to start where I finally went with an echo and that one consistently starts in 2 to 3 pulls. Same as when I bought it 3 to 4 years ago. Maybe I had a lemon but nothing like pulling the cord 30+ times on a hot humid day to get you warmed up before doing the actual work.

I picked up this saw used about 5 years ago. I run a 20" bar and cut 8-10 cords of wood annually with it. Starts up every time and had sufficient power. I use ethanol free fuel which I believe make a big difference.
