The Husqvarna 450 Rancher is a solid mid size 20 inch chainsaw that stands out for reliable power on everyday cutting jobs. It has handled 24 inch hardwood trees, countless 10 to 12 inch limbs, and other heavy use while still starting easily, often on the second pull. The 20 inch bar is described as long enough for most logs without feeling too heavy, and the saw is praised as a dependable workhorse in the 18 to 20 inch range. The main tradeoff is weight, which makes it less appealing for climbing or ladder work, and bar oil leakage is a recurring concern. A practical fit when you want capability without jumping to a larger saw.
Common Questions (5)
Yes. It is described as a workhorse for the 18-20 inch mid-size range and has been used successfully on 24-inch hardwood trees and many 10-12 inch limbs. It is a solid fit when you want enough saw for most logs without moving up to a much larger model.
It is considered a bit heavy, and the Rancher line is built more for truck or occasional use than for carrying around all day. If you need to climb or work from a ladder, the weight can be a drawback; if you want a lighter saw to reduce fatigue, a smaller model may be better.
For this price, the Echo CS590 is presented as the better value and a step up in capability. The Husqvarna 460 is the larger option if you truly need extra bar length, while the 450 Rancher stays lighter and more manageable.
Bar oil leakage can happen on this saw, but that is also common across chainsaws in general. The practical takeaway is to expect some oil seepage and store it accordingly.
It reportedly starts very easily, often on the second pull. That makes it a practical choice for regular use when you want a saw that is ready to go without much fuss.

The T435 and 460 are my smaller and larger models. All work well for their intended purposes.
Kudos to Phoinix for posting this.
PS: show your saw some love and use ethanol free fuel. Regular ethanol blended gas voids the warranty.
