Would this be a good unit to lay on the grates of a Weber charcoal grill to get a more accurate reading of the temperature at the grate?

2-unit but only single-probe, don't get fooled.

Skip this and buy at least 2-probe ones. Four probe thermometers would be best: one for the chicken breast, the other for its thigh, a third if you are also smoking a pork butt at the same time, and reserve the fourth for the internal temperature of the smoker. Adjust as needed for your setup.

Had this one for years, ended up losing the probe but it never failed me, would probably have bought it again if not for upgrading to a wireless 2x probe unit.
