Gen 5 read/write at 13-15 Gb/s gets pretty toasty apparently. This seems great for a homelab and laughable overkill for the gamers it likely targets.

I have the TR SSD heatsink version with a fan. Highly recommend that. In my case, my SSD was sitting right against my GPU and was getting cooked by the exhaust during gaming. Passive sinks weren't cutting it as they can't cool further without good airflow once they get heat saturated. To be honest, even the fan version was barely sufficient. What made a tremendous difference was relocating the SSD+ fan heatsink using a PCIe M.2 addon card to the other side of the GPU, near the intake,

I bought two of the HR-10s and learned the hard way that modern motherboards are not designed with these in mind. The primary M.2 slot on my motherboard is under the primary PCIe 16x header that's optimal for a graphics card. Only the secondary M.2 slot is useful for this, but even then, it's also under two more PCIe headers if I want to use expansion cards. It's all designed for flat SSD heatsinks at ½ inch at best.
