I have owned this model for about a year, bought it new from HP. The keyboard is backlit and large, the touchpad is responsive. I have the non-touch, the screen is fine for office work. The machine is well built, build quality similar to a Macbook with full aluminium frame. The HP Wolf security software is annoying, and randomly spikes CPU usage when it auto-scans. Overall, it's a slightly above-average business machine.

This CPU has mediocre battery life and only so-so graphics if you're into getting serious work done. 32gb is nice, but it's definitely old tech. For $364 it's pretty good but not great. The 12th gen CPUs improve things a lot. 13th even more. 14th not so much. 15th (288v etc) massively better. 16th even more so.

The earlier gens are definitely bad. I would not even consider 10th gen and earlier unless it's a specifically low power part for specifically low power, headless tasks.

Are you guys hearing yourselves? You guys make it sound like we have tons of great choices for laptops in 2026 for low dollars. Also monumental leaps in cou performance between intel gens? Naw bro.

This refurbished HP EliteBook 830 G8 is a compact business laptop that stands out for its solid aluminum build, backlit keyboard, responsive touchpad, and good Linux support. The 32GB memory and swappable M.2 2280 SSD make it flexible, and the 2.97 pound weight keeps it easy to carry. The main drawbacks are the older 11th gen i7, mediocre battery life, and HP Wolf security, which can be annoying and spike CPU usage. It feels like a capable office machine with some age showing.

  • The EliteBook 830 G8 uses a full aluminum frame and feels well built for office work.

  • The keyboard is backlit and the touchpad is responsive for everyday productivity tasks.

    MaroonDeer2762FeistyField6732

  • The laptop includes two SODIMM memory slots and supports swapping an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD.

    michael452

  • Linux support is reported to be good, which can help if you plan to switch operating systems.

    ratbastard

  • The 11th-gen i7-1185G7 is described as having mediocre battery life and so-so graphics for serious work.

  • eBay checkout math can reduce the discount only on the sale amount while sales tax stays full, raising the total.

    tyiu48SlickTex

  • HP Wolf security software can be annoying and may spike CPU usage during auto-scans.

    MaroonDeer2762

  • The eBay listing weight appears inconsistent, with the description showing 6.000 while the laptop weighs about 2.97 lbs.

that's exactly what I was thinking ? A refurbished laptop from 2021 - it shows this model was built in those years. isn't it expensive to buy an almost 6yrs old PC for $360 ? Probably; battery is old and other parts as well..Appreciate your clarification what I am missing ?

If you are concerned about the laptop being too old, there is a current generation, also refurbished. With 32G RAM, it is $900.

This model has good Linux support. If you have a Chase CC, look at your offers for 5% CB.
That 5% CB is maxed at $3.00

DDR4 RAM. Don't be fooled by the 32gb specs.
