This APC Smart-UPS is a short-depth lithium ion rackmount UPS aimed at clean power, voltage regulation, and graceful shutdown for servers or NAS gear. The strongest praise centers on true UPS behavior, USB communication with Synology, email alerts, and proper shutdown signaling, with the lithium battery seen as a modern step up from older SLA units. Runtime is still only a few minutes, so it is mainly for bridging outages rather than long backup. Shipping availability is the big caveat, since the listing repeatedly shows ineligible or unconfirmed delivery to many states.
Rackmount server owners needing clean shutdowns, because it provides voltage regulation, USB communication, and remote management for Synology and networking gear.
IT setups that need true UPS behavior, because portable power stations lack voltage regulation and graceful shutdown support.
Users wanting a lithium UPS with longer service life than SLA batteries, because LiFePO4 is described as lasting far longer than lead-acid packs.
Short-depth rack builders, because the chassis is aimed at AVR racks and fits where deeper units are awkward.
Shoppers in states with strict shipping restrictions, because the listing can reject addresses in multiple states.
Budget buyers comparing watt-hours, because the runtime is short and the cost per stored energy is far higher than a portable power station.
Home backup buyers needing long outage runtime, because it only provides minutes before draining.
People expecting a portable power station replacement, because it is a true UPS with regulation and shutdown features rather than extended-energy storage.

Maybe just an issue with Synology. Both of my GoldenMates had the same issue with both of my Synology units.I searched online and others have reported the same issue. My email was getting flooded with power outage alerts every few minutes. GoldenMate also acknowledged that they were aware and the only fix was to disable monitoring. That still doesn't fix the other major issue that there is no voltage regulation on the GoldenMate units.

Better to just buy a portable power station from Anker, Bluetti, EcoFlow, etc if you are considering the GoldenMate. They are cheaper/kWh, support higher powered devices and offer better features and support.

I've been using one for about three months for a Synology NAS, NVR, and other networking gear. It works well and talks to the Synology over USB, including generating emails when it comes off of line power and providing a proper shutdown signal.

The GoldenMate also do not provide any type of voltage regulation. My area suffers from frequent voltage spikes >135V and sags <105V numerous times weekly. My APC, CyberPower and Vertiv units will keep the output stable whereas the GoldenMates will not.
Maybe they've released an updated unit that works with older Synology units. Mine (GoldenMates) were purchased about 11 months ago.
I don't see any efficiency spec on their most expensive unit. No surge specs either. Warranty is less than half of the APC unit. No network management either (APC software exposes a massive amount of info). We know APC makes good UPS units, hard to say about a company that doesn't even publish a physical adrress.
Taking a step back, there's a lot to UPS systems that matter not on the marketing material like self testing, battery balancing, and if the company will still be supporting to the product in 5 years.
This unit at $648 (free shipping) is cheaper than refurbished lead acid APC units of similar size.
(ignoring that it doesn't actually ship anywhere)

I haven't had any false alarms. Any time it's kicked on, my CyberPower UPS nearby also kicks on.
When the SLA battery in my CyberPower dies, I'll probably swap it out for the GoldenMate as well.
I don't have anything against APC, they're just expensive for using what is now quite outdated technology in the SLA batteries. There's no reason for them not to move over to Lifepo4, and there shouldn't be a significant cost increase in doing so. SLAs only last a couple years, while Lifepo4 will have around 75-80% life left at 10 years. They have double the depth of discharge and the BMS manages balancing cells. They've taken over the marine, RV, and solar industries, and there's no reason why UPSs should be so far behind.
Until the price of LiFEPO4 UPS systems come down, I'll be replacing the SLA batteries in my UPS and running this setup. I may still run the dual setup for the extended runtimes though.
