I put a couple 12 packs of soda in the bag for a size reference. It's a well made bag so it can handle weight too.
Given you have to pay for shipping under $35 at staples, I guess it doesn't matter. and if you're doing a store pick up order, well do it, don't add the tote bag and see if they'll just give you one when you pick up your order, worst they can do is say no.
