Onkyo makes great receivers - my last five have been them. But, I think we all know you're way more likely to get a highly discounted Onkyo than Denon.

But unless you have to have something today..I dont think the receiver in this thread is a good deal for this price
IMO, the Onkyo RZ30 is the one to look at this level
And if you dont care about the extra $$..then buy the Onkyo RZ70
To be clear, I have not owned the receiver in this thread
But I owned the Denon X4800 for $1000 and was not blown away by its performance versus the Onkyo RZ50 I also personally owned at the same time...I think I paid $580 for it
Both have been sold with the Marantz Cinema 30 taking the Denon X4800's spot and the Integra 8.4 taking the Onkyo RZ50's spot
I am also making the assumption that the receiver is this thread performs lower than the X3800 did in the Audio Science Review test

Keep in mind in real world use, those ASR "test" are not an audible benefit.
Even those that rely on them heavily always look for professional reviews for a reason.
The RZ70 is overkill for most people.
Not many have 11 speakers that are all hard to drive.
If you don't and only need 9 channels, the RZ30 gives you pretty much everything the RZ70 does for much less.
An advantage to Denon(or Marantz).
There is a script called A1EVO that gives you pretty much all the performance of the Dirac included on the Onkyo's units for free!
Total game changer for Audyssey.
I highly recommend going with a used or refurbished Denon & use A1EVO Express.
Much less expensive and you lose nothing.
Receiver technology changes constantly.
By the time that someday rolls around, the future proof receiver you purchase now may likely be outdated by then.
Keep in mind in real world use, those ASR "test" are not an audible benefit.
