Three modifications someone can do to this . One is to raise or lower the unit by adjusting them not on each end . Second is to wrap a thin bungee cord around the whole unit and around the handle to stop it from popping up and down and releasing nails as you go through bumpy Terrain . The third is to attach a 12-in or so long Harbor Freight black magnet to the back lower Edge as when you go over rough terrain or grass, nails are caught and then released like a fish but sucked on to the rear harbor Freight magnet . This function is actually included in magnetic sweepers costing over 80 bucks . Blue Streak makes one such as that . You can use the red adhesive double-sided tape sometimes called 3M tape to attach the magnet strip . For clarification the magnet strip is maybe about $7 and is mounted to the wall with two screws and is me to hold your kitchen knives or your metal tools .

This one time i see these 2 girls with some magnetic sweepers, similar to this but without wheels, combing the park lawn. I watch them go all over the park. When I'm about to leave I go talk to them and ask them what they're doing. They said theyre looking for their keys that they dropped. as I walk away I wish them good luck and I look on the ground and say do you drive a VW? Are these your keys 😂

Thanks for the great advice (rep!), I didn't know why stuff would fall off when going over bumps, I figured it was scraping the ground but the handle bouncing up and down makes sense as that would release the magnet. I also considered adding a rear magnet but every one I found online was kinda expensive. Did not consider one of those tool holders which are often dirt cheap at HF or even LIDL.

Admittedly, I don't understand your first tip. How can I functionally adjust the height?

I've been looking at the smaller one from Harbor Freight for $13.99, has anyone else tried it?

That one doesn't have a release handle to disable the magnet. You'd have to brush off the metallic debris with your hand.

Well...I just lost my wedding ring at the soccer field. Might have to buy one of these. Lol

I have one I bought used for $5 and it works fine but it's tricky getting stuff off. The wheels are rickety but work fine. I bought this deal since I really like the idea of quick release.

I had that but unless you were using it on a hard floor it was pretty much worthless. Forget about using in grass. The wheels have so little clearance you are dragging the sweeper across the grass and the grass is knocking off whatever nail you just happened to accidently pickup. Also the screws would always work themselves loose, you couldn't tighten otherwise the wheels would not spin. Loctite didn't help either.

Anecdotal story. I had a 400 foot driveway installed and the crew decided they were just going to leave all the screws from the framing where they removed them. I used the $14 HF version, found maybe 10 screws over the 400' after a few hours. Upgrades to this style (again from HF but looks identical) and found about a pound of screws within about an hour. This also takes far less effort to pull since you aren't dragging it across the grade. Huge step up.

*If you were picking up debris off your garage floor, I think the $14 would be great though.
