Seems like to be useful for HDD's it would have to have an external power source. I don't see one in the product description. If all it's being used for is keyboard, mice etc then a cheap usb 2.0 would work just as well.

The attached v3.0 cable with a USB-A connector is where the data is flowing through. You can optionally plug in a USB-C cable to the end into a power plug to supply additional power.

The ones with three and six foot cables are also on sale. X

Bought one of these, awesome hub. Well-made and has external power source. There's a blue light that's always on that might be a dealbreaker for some.
