Keep in mind that you need a certain irradiance (power density), measured in mW/cm², and a sufficient energy dose, measured in J/cm², to obtain any therapeutic benefits.

Generally, for common skin benefits, you might need around 20–50 J/cm², depending on the wavelength and the specific application, delivered at a distance of approximately 12–18 inches for 8–15 minutes. The farther you move the light unit away, the lower the power density becomes—and it can decrease significantly with distance. With a lower power density, you would need to position the device closer and/or use it for a longer duration to achieve the same energy dose.

For other applications, such as deeper-tissue recovery or joints, higher irradiance and/or a higher total energy dose may be required.

If a manufacturer doesn't provide the irradiance (mW/cm²) or enough information to calculate the dose (J/cm²), that's a major red flag. In many cases, these inexpensive devices may simply be too weak to deliver a meaningful therapeutic dose within a reasonable amount of time. Without knowing the actual power density, you really have no way of determining whether the device can provide the claimed benefits. Therefore, I would be very skeptical of such products.
