I have one cooling my 9950x3D in a tiny itx case and it works well. Great price for an effective cooler.

The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE is a strong budget air cooler known for quiet, effective cooling and solid value. It handles high end chips well, with reports of a Ryzen 9 9950X3D working in a tiny ITX case and a Ryzen 7 5700X3D staying in the mid 70s. The cooler is also described as larger than expected, so case clearance and RAM fit may need checking. At around $35, it is a capable pick if you want serious air cooling without paying for liquid cooling.

  • Gamers building a compact ITX rig, because it cools a Ryzen 9 9950X3D well in a tiny case.

  • Quiet-PC builders who want strong air cooling, because it is described as pretty quiet and effective.

    ddt972

  • High-heat CPU owners who want low temperatures, because a Ryzen 7 5700X3D stayed in the mid 70s.

    Luigis3rdcousin

  • Builders needing a large tower cooler for heavy loads, because it is called overkill for 120W and below.

    mbaci

  • Builders with tight case or RAM clearance, because the cooler is larger than expected and may need fan repositioning to avoid resting on memory.

    Andrepartthree

  • Users expecting a compact cooler, because it is definitely a larger air cooler.

    Andrepartthree

  • People cooling 120W-and-below CPUs, because it is overkill and smaller four-pipe coolers should be enough.

I tried this out and went with the arctic 3 pro 360. But, it really was pretty quiet and effective. If you're on a budget the phantom spirit 120 is probably the best cooler available.

edit: doh, I just realized that I posed about the ps 120 and this deal is for the peerless assassin. It probably performs similarly, but can't speak to it specifically. I'd guess the ps 120 is slightly better

The rainbow puke version is a penny cheaper. Good little cooler.

Huh, that's good to know. I thought the extra heat pipe would make a difference, but maybe not. This is definitely a good deal for anybody that needs a nice air cooler.

I've read that their Frozen Angel (or Spirit ?), is even better
(same temps less sound) but are almost impossible to get in the US.

FYI this post is mislabeled, link goes to Phantom Spirit (which is better with 7 heat pipes) not Peerless Assassin, yeah their naming scheme is confusing

This is the nonviolent version. The violent one would be the Peer Assassin.

This is an amazing cooler and really good priced. Not really a big deal because it is usually around $35 but even at regular price it is great. For 120W and below it is overkill and 4 pipes coolers should be more than enough, but an extra $10, why not.
