The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE is a strong budget air cooler known for quiet, effective cooling and solid value. It handles high end chips well, with reports of a Ryzen 9 9950X3D working in a tiny ITX case and a Ryzen 7 5700X3D staying in the mid 70s. The cooler is also described as larger than expected, so case clearance and RAM fit may need checking. At around $35, it is a capable pick if you want serious air cooling without paying for liquid cooling.

  • The cooler can keep a Ryzen 7 5700X3D under mid-70s temperatures during use.

  • The cooler can run quietly and effectively when compared against an Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360.

  • The cooler can fit well in a tiny ITX case while still cooling a Ryzen 9 9950X3D effectively.

  • The cooler can deliver strong performance when paired with two Noctua NFA12x25 G2 Chromax fans.

  • The listing can be mislabeled so the link may point to the Phantom Spirit instead of the Peerless Assassin.

  • The cooler can be larger than expected and may require measuring case clearance and adjusting fan position near RAM.

  • The cooler setup can force RAM reseating on some motherboards when boot errors occur.

  • The extra heat pipe count may not translate into a noticeable real-world advantage for typical CPU power levels.

I came here to say how happy I am with my thermalright peerless assassin cooler but everyone beat me to it Stick Out Tongue .. I will say this much.. definitely do some measurements inside your PC case with a ruler or something because it's definitely a larger air cooler.. I also had to push one of the fans up somewhat so that it wasn't resting directly on the ram sticks (whether this happens to you too or not depends on your PC build) .. still happy with the temps it keeps the CPU at.. I mention it only in case you have to unseat and reseat the ram

(it's rare but I've had to do that a few times on my Asus motherboard over the three and a half years I've had it and the CPU and ram I bought at the same time - motherboard gets confused, I get an error message when booting up and reseating the RAM fixes it but that hasn't happened in .... I want to say a year now?... )

Huh, that's good to know. I thought the extra heat pipe would make a difference, but maybe not. This is definitely a good deal for anybody that needs a nice air cooler.
Various reviewers have swapped the two (Phantom Spirit vs Peerless Assassin) in terms of which is better. They're both always close with a small enough difference that it could easily be attributed to other variables. Either one is a great choice.
