I'd buy the DS2. It is newer, quieter on paper, has excellent volume control, and currently costs less. The DS1 only makes much sense if you specifically want the ESS implementation or DSD512/768-kHz capability.
Only posting this ai overview because I just went hunting for a dac/amp . Bought the ds2 and ka13 pretty similar when using the 4.4 balanced output . My ears preferred the ka13
