This EliteBook 830 G8 looks like a solid business laptop for everyday work, especially if 32GB of RAM matters for Chrome tabs, Excel, PDFs, and photo storage. The 11th gen i7 and upgradeable internals make it feel capable and easy to service, and the RAM and SSD alone are treated as a big part of the value at this price. The main knocks are the older 6 plus year platform, the small 256GB drive, and uncertainty around battery and refurb condition. A practical pick if you want a lightweight office machine and can live with modest storage.
Common Questions (5)
Yes. The 11th-gen i7 and 32GB RAM make it a capable work machine for Excel, PDFs, email, and lots of Chrome tabs, and it is described as enough for most people even though the model is older. The 256GB SSD is the main limitation if you need lots of local storage.
Yes, it is worth checking closely on arrival. Reported issues include a loud clicking fan, a smashed webcam, and battery health below what a certified refurb might suggest, so testing the fan, webcam, and battery right away is prudent.
Battery condition can vary: one certified refurb arrived with battery performance that stayed stable for a few hours, while another reported unit had 78% battery health. Certified refurb is also described as typically the highest refurb grade, often around 90% battery health, but checking with powercfg /batteryreport is recommended.
Yes. It is described as a fleet laptop that is easy to open and service, with replaceable RAM, M.2 NVMe storage, battery, and possibly WLAN. That makes the 32GB RAM and 256GB SSD less of a dead end if you want to swap parts later.
The 256GB SSD is not much storage for large local libraries, but it can work for basic use or if you add an external drive. If the SSD fails, a replacement 256GB M.2 drive is cited at about $55.

1.Right-click on the Windows Start menu button and select Device Manager.
2.Click the arrow next to Disk drives to expand the list.
3.You will see the exact model number of your SSD.
4.You can download the manufacturer software.
Option 2 is to download a third-party app, and the recommended one is CrystalDiskInfo, but download it directly from their site: https://crystalmark.inf
BTW, it is not the end of the world if the drive fails (as long as you have things backed up). You can get a new replacement 256gb m.2 drive for $55. Not ideal, but if you get a drive with light usage and it does unfortunately fail, it doesn't mean the laptop is trashed. Plus hopefully the Allstate warranty covers it, but you'd have to read the verbiage on whether they consider this a wear-item.
Personally, I prefer HP elitebook because it is a business laptop. No offense since you already bought the HP, I think the Acer is a better choice for most people, unless you want a business laptop.
Acer seems to be more fun to use. Again, I don't use laptop for fun. It has touchscreen, 1T ssd, and a more recent CPU. Acer certified refurbished is like brand new. Excellent battery health. You can't tell it is refurbished.
How do I know this? I damaged a laptop when replacing the battery back in February.
I had to buy a replacement and I saw a different variant of this Acer on sale at $355. After tax, it was $395.xx
I made that purchase at once.
Now, after RAM and ssd inflation since February, the price is only slightly higher. I think the recent price is between $390.xx to around $410

I'm generally a bit hesitant on 3rd party refurbs, unless the original warranty coverage is still valid, which doesn't usually seem to be the case. But of course, refurbs generally mean a more competitive/slick price point
