Royal basmati rice is valued for its aroma, taste, and decent texture when it arrives fresh, and the bulk price can be attractive, especially with coupons or Subscribe and Save. Some bags have cooked up well in rice cookers, and sealed storage or freezing is suggested to keep larger quantities fresh. The main concern is contamination, with repeated reports of bugs, worms, pantry moths, and web-like debris in some bags. A few also find the flavor dry, bland, or not like true Indian basmati, so it is best suited to shoppers comfortable inspecting and storing rice carefully.

  • Home cooks making biryani or other Indian rice dishes, because the grains can cook up with good taste and texture when rinsed and cooked properly.

  • Shoppers who freeze and wash dry goods before storing them, because the rice can be rinsed and frozen to reduce insect risk.

  • Small households that use rice regularly, because a 30-pound supply can go surprisingly fast for two or three people.

  • People who want insect-free pantry staples, because these bags can arrive with bugs, worms, ants, moths, and web-like contamination.

  • Buyers expecting authentic basmati flavor, because this rice can taste dry, flavorless, and unlike true Indian basmati.

  • Shoppers who need a premium basmati for everyday cooking, because the grains can be bottom-of-the-barrel quality compared with higher-grade store brands.

This rice is total crap. Only buy it if you dont know what true Indian basmati is supposed to taste like.
We usually get this from Costco but picked up a few bags from Amazon last sale. We're through 1 and on the 2nd with no bugs.

I like the taste and texture of this brand. I do 1:1 rice/water in a Cuckoo cooker and fluff it immediately after it finishes. Rice comes out really well. Can you give an online available example of where to find better basmati?

Are fakes still a concern?
one out of every 10 rice grains is a fake. It's actually larva, not a grain.

A 4.6 Amazon rating is, in my opinion, just about excellent. If some customers reported finding rice bugs, that's unfortunate, and they may have received older packages that had been sitting in hot storage conditions. Most customers, however, did not report that issue and found the rice to be good quality.

Also, if you regularly cook rice for just two or three people, 30 pounds can actually go surprisingly fast.

Regardless, I am not buying it because I am not supporting them what they are doing to other countrymen in their own country.
Amazon ratings are meaningless because they are gamed. Also, remember that many people put this away for a while and don't find the bugs until they finally open it. By then they don't even remember where they got it and just toss it. Don't buy long shelf-life products from Amazon and definitely don't buy the stuff that is on clearance.

Bottom of the barrel basmati. If you have a local South Asian grocery store, spend a bit more and get a higher quality brand.

Home got infested with pantry moths from these Royal rice bags, still
dealing with the problems and yes some of the Amazon rice come with
free black ants or some pest. When you open it a few fly into your face
and its got spider web type stuff all over inside the bag yuck.

In reviews, 98 customers report receiving "infested bags with small bugs and white wiggly worms".
This isnt uncommon when it comes to rice. They are weevils or meal moths. They lay eggs inside of the grains.
If you freeze the rice for a couple of days it will kill them. When you wash your rice, the grains with eggs in them will float, if there were maggots, that are now dead. They will float.

This is why you always wash your rice. I always freeze my 25# bags of jasmine rice in my deep freezer for a couple of days.
