The Viper model in this thread is significantly better and worth the additional $70 imo.

The Vortex Viper HD 10x42 is a higher tier binocular aimed at birding and spotting, with noticeably better glass and coatings than the Diamondback line. The HD and ED glass are called out as real optical upgrades, and the wider field of view and light transmission at 10x are praised for detail. The main caveat is that HD labeling can be confusing, so the specs are worth checking. Overall, it reads as a strong optics upgrade for the price.
Common Questions (4)
Yes. The Viper HD line has better glass and coatings than the Diamondback HD, and several comments describe the Viper as a noticeable step up. The extra cost is often framed as worth it if you want the better optics rather than the lower-priced Diamondback.
Yes, these are described as having true High Density lenses, and the ED glass is called out as a real feature that makes a difference. That matters because Vortex has sometimes used HD as a label on other products without the same glass spec.
Yes. It is described as an especially good deal on a well-reviewed set, with free shipping and no tax making it even better. One buyer also noted paying about $300 for the same binoculars three years ago and still being happy with them.
The 10x model gives more magnification, while 8x is described as the sweet spot for a wider field of view and better light transmission. For birding or spotting, the better glass and extra field of view can matter more than raw magnification.

I wish they were 8x. 10x seems to be what most people reach for, but I think 8x is the sweet spot that people sleep on. For spotting or birding the extra field of view and light transmission is huge, and if the glass is good you'll see way more detail than someone more magnification and worse glass.

The only difference its a "grey" color instead of green. whatever. Found these for a friend earlier this year, no complaints.
