Not stated in the original listing, but this is the EP25 Apple HomeKit variation of this device. If you're in the Apple ecosystem, that's good, but if you're in the original Kasa ecosystem (the KP115 is the energy monitoring version of this plug in that line) than the extra layer of security Apple requires may throw a wrench in your local control scripts. I've personally avoided devices from the Apple HomeKit line for just this reason. Just something to be aware of if it impacts you.

KP115 (Older, Stable): The KP115 relies entirely on Kasa's original, reverse-engineered local protocol (JSON over port 9999). This protocol has broad compatibility with older, raw socket implementations and works flawlessly with native Python scripts without needing advanced authentication handshakes.

EP25 (Newer, Strict Authentication): The EP25 utilizes newer hardware revisions (like v2.6+). TP-Link rolled out updated firmware that enforces strict local authentication and encryption protocols. Based strictly on the price, it's a great buy if it fits the ecosystem you're in (i.e. Apple HomeKit). If it was the KP115 instead, I would have jumped on it. I love that particular module; I have about a dozen in service and can always use more.

This is wrong, local control has nothing to do with homekit support. android Kasa app / home assistant works just fine
