InKind's mystery offer is a dining credit promo that can be especially strong when the account gets $50 off $100, with some accounts also seeing $75 off $225 or smaller tiers like $30 off $100. The app can be finicky, but the reward often appears under the Rewards tab after refreshing or reopening, and it can work for carryout in some cases. The main limits are that offers and gift card balances no longer stack, tips still need separate payment, and hitting the minimum spend can be awkward for a single meal. It is a useful way to trim a restaurant tab if the right restaurant and offer line up.

  • Diners planning a $100-plus meal, because the $50 off $100 reward still leaves a useful discount after tip and can fit a bill just over the threshold.

  • Deal hunters comfortable hunting for participating restaurants, because the network includes enough local spots in some cities to make redemption practical.

  • People who want to try restaurants for carryout or delivery, because the offer can be redeemed for pickup and sometimes delivery through the app.

  • Regulars who like stacking dining credits with cash back, because qualifying spend can generate additional cash back that expires later and can be used with little minimum.

  • Shoppers who need the reward to appear reliably in email, because the link can show as already used or fail to surface until the app is refreshed.

  • People expecting to combine rewards with stored gift card balance, because the offer cannot be stacked with gift card balance anymore.

  • People who want a simple one-and-done dining credit, because multiple reward types can be hard to use together and some restaurants may not work with the app yet.

  • Solo diners with smaller checks, because reaching the $100 minimum can be hard for a single meal.

InKind is an innovative alternative finance vehicle for restaurants, which is why you're most likely to see growing local/regional chains represented among the restaurants in the network.
If you're a restauranteur, and you want to expand, or open a new location, you can finance it via a line of credit or loan from a bank at current high interest rates, or from private investors looking for an ownership stake, or now you can turn to InKind.
How it works:
You own a restaurant and need $200K in financing. InKind gives you $200K cash in exchange for $400K in dining credits. InKind then "sells" those food credits to it's app users. If somebody spends $100 worth of InKind dollars at a restaurant, InKind draws down $100 worth of food credits from that restaurant, and gives the user back 20% of what they spent, or an occasional coupon or gift card discount.
This works InKind because they spent only $50 on the food. They give back 20% in InKind dollars that expire, so after breakage maybe that's $15. That still leaves another $35 of margin for others discounts and promotions.
For the restaurant, it's a no-brainer. Food cost is typically 20-25%, so if they sell food in advance for 50% off, they get the cash flow and have still more than covered that cost. I'm also guessing that InKind-paid tabs run higher than average, so maybe they sell more high-margin alchohol and deserts.
This is why you can't use InKind dollars on tips. There is no margin on tips.
This is also why restaurants come and go from InKind. It's not that InKind is failing. It's that it's working, and their users are spending all the credits. The restaurant won't reappear until they need to expand again.
What do restaurants think if you use inkind to order takeout at the front counter?

Also you can get a $100 InKind gift card for only $64.99 on the Costco website right now.

This should work for carry out and, in certain cases, for delivery. Within the InKind app, right below the top search bar, there are filters for restaurants that offer carry out and delivery. Otherwise, you should be able order for carry out so long as you can get a check number to use to pay in the InKind app. I've done it with CPK when they were still with InKind where I ordered for take out at the counter and paid with InKind using an offer.

Just used a $30 off $100 reward we got and found that using inKind to pay avoided the restaurant's 3% credit card fee.

I would never eat at a restaurant that charges cc fees. In fact, a very popular local cash only restaurant, owner was sentenced to jail for tax evasion.

Anyone know if INKIND coupon can be applied toward purchasing a gift card for a restaurant?

I have a 50 off $100 Inkind coupon. Instead of buying $100 of food and applying the $50 coupon, I was gonna buy a $100 gift card for a specific restaurant instead.

Has anyone tried?
