Never goes on sale? Excuse me? It's been on sale twice this week - once on Fandango and once on AppleTV.

I wish they'd remaster it too, but I've read about how difficult it is effects wise especially. They spent a lot of dough remastering TNG and I don't think they ever really broke even on that. So I imagine DS9 probably has no shot. Which is a shame.

Thanks for the heads up on this!

Bought this for $15 from Fandango the other day through the app, but Google cancelled the transaction afterwards, so it appeared then was removed from my Fandango library. Dealing with their so-called support has been a nightmare. Went ahead and bought this for a few dollars more. Also finally had a use for those expiring digital credits.

Lol is every service selling this for a different on sale price? Vudu was still the best at $15 about a week ago. Apple was the worst at $30

Good deal. To bad remastering cost so much and takes so much time. Really wish they would do it to old shows.

Each series has slightly different technical challenges. TOS was the easiest to remaster, because all they had to do was rescan it and update the FX shots. TNG was shot on film cameras as well, but each episode had to be painstakingly reassembled from scraps of film. DS9 was also shot on film but a lot of the CGI FX shots were created at TV (480i) resolution, making it even more difficult and unfeasible. I think one day we will see an AI powered upscale but I don't think Paramount is going to spend any more money. This article explains it: https://gizmodo.com/the-detailed-...1791962332

So tempted, but I've had content revoked out of my Prime Video library in recent years with no notice, so it makes me leery.

Can anyone verify that this hasn't been stretched into 16:9 widescreen? Or worse, cropped?

I would gladly chip in a ridiculous amount of money for a remaster like they did with TOS with all new effects and a clean transfer.

DS9 has so many CGI scenes that the task must seem daunting to them. They also swapped from practical models to CGI models during the series and all of those would have to be recreated, especially those fleet battles. If you saw the special "what we leave behind," they did remaster a short battle sequence from DS9 and it looked amazing.
