My pops puts a drill through storage that we are disposing of. Outside disposable microwave for 10 seconds doesn't hurt either (well it hurts the data). Don't need to be a hoarder.

I am a big proponent of lower cost alternatives but the truth is when it comes to memory-cards, ssds etc. you don't wanna take any chance if you are using it for something important. I learned this the hard way several times.

These are good for SBC retro emulator handhelds, which you can often find for sale on this site. You'll want to backup the Micro-SD cards those come with as they're notoriously bad quality.

Yeah, there are better options out there, but in a lot of cases this is the only one. As with any storage device, backups are key.

If we're being real, you have just as much likelihood of losing data on the most expensive drive on the market as you do with these — ****assuming you don't have backups****.

Rather than blow an entire wad on one drive, get multiple and do rotational backups.

-Keep one on you or in a remote secure place.

-Keep one in a fire safe for immediate retrieval.

-Keep one additional backup for every backup you make.

Most importantly: If it's flash memory, power them up regularly. Unpowered drives will eventually develop bit rot.
