This Energy RC bundle is a strong home theater and music package built around neutral, smooth sounding towers, a matching center, and bookshelf speakers that many find detailed without harshness. The set is described as heavy, solid, and still competitive years after release, with the RC 70s and RC LCR doing especially well for dialogue and full system synergy. A subwoofer is still needed for true full range output, and the main caution is Adorama shipping and support, where damaged boxes, replacement mixups, and long delays have been reported. A good fit if you want classic Energy sound and can get an intact shipment.

  • The Energy RC-70 and RC-LCR package can deliver a smooth, solid sound with a premium crossover for many listeners.

  • A subwoofer is required for solid full-range performance with these speakers.

  • The RC-70 setup can work well with an Onkyo 7100 receiver for home theater and music.

  • The RC-70 system can be used as mains with an RSL subwoofer for home theater and music.

  • Adorama shipping and customer service can cause severe damage and fulfillment delays that prevent setup before return windows close.

  • Adorama packaging and QC can lead to repeated replacement units arriving damaged or with veneer and cabinet issues.

  • The RC-70 bundle may require careful verification because deal details and replacements have reportedly been mixed up with RC-10 bookshelf speakers.

  • Some listeners find the Energy RC tuning too bright or sibilant even after EQ adjustments.

If you want to "evaluate the sound signature" all you need to do is hook up the center speaker and the bookshelf speakers. The towers will provide the same sound signature as those 3, just a bit more mid-bass extension and output (which is irrelevant if you use a sub anyway). And if your main use is TV/movies then the front L/R and surrounds are largely irrelevant anyhow, because it's the CENTER speaker that actually carries 60-80% of the output including all of the DIALOGUE. Salesmen will never tell you that because they want you to spend more on big bulky towers since the more you spend the fatter their commission. Ditto with the industry manufacturers---ANY industry, really. Upselling the customer means more money in their pockets. End of story. Don't split hairs or lose any sleep over this silly hobby---the goal is ENJOYMENT, not being trapped in OCD.
That's a whole lot of words to say absolutely nothing.😅

This set up is end game for 98% of people. It is smooth and solid. Even the crossover is premium. If it is pure sound you are after and not a particular brand or look.. this checks all the boxes. As to sound signature and what ever other bs you are spouting trust those of us who know better.
It's fine if you don't understand -nobody expected you to anyway. Just let the adults handle the discussion.🥱

may I ask what you ended up running as a sub with them?
I have dual SVS sb12-nsd subs. got them when SVS would put them on sale each Black Friday for $300 several years ago.

I bought a set a month ago, but one of the RC70 units arrived severely damaged. I filed for a replacement that same day, but it's been a full month and I'm still waiting. Without it, I can't set up my system at all. The return window for my new amp and subwoofer is about to close, and I'm really worried I won't even be able to test if they work before time runs out.
Oh, you're in the same boat I am.

I am extremely, extremely frustrated with Adorama, and primarily with their CS. I'll try not to explain all of it because it's so damn long. Here are the highlights so far:

-3 out of 4 boxes severely damaged including the RC-70 towers and the RC-LCR. Go to RMA and they only issue me one shipping label (this is very important) have to deal with 2 CS reps before they send me enough labels. Notice that the weights on the labels don't match. Their CS is literally so bad I can't bring myself to call them up again to try and figure out what the mix up is because chances are they will just screw it up even worse, so I decide to play it safe by putting the RMA and Order numbers directly on all the boxes so ensure no mixups. Certainly they can't be THAT incompetent, RIGHT?!
-Their email CS rep tells me they have all three speakers back in their warehouse. A month goes by and I only receive the center speaker replacement. Spend this entire time emailing their worthless CS reps to inquire as to the hold up. Make it very clear to them that I'm still missing the RC-70 towers. Only excuse given was "investigation" from their warehouse and returns. Decide enough is enough and threaten to file a chargeback if I don't have a tracking number for the missing RC-70 speakers within a week.
-Get another email telling me that the replacements should be shipped soon. I get an email with an invoice but for the RC-10 bookshelf speakers.
-Call up their CS dept (i loath doing this because their phone reps are somehow worse than their email) who tells me that apparently I was shipped two sets of RC-10 bookshelfs by mistake.
-Turns out because of the mess of the original return labels, despite me putting the RMA and order number on all the boxes, their system glitched out because it was based on the return labels. The weights were wrong because they were for the wrong damn speakers.
-NOT ONCE IN OVER A MONTH WAS I NOTIFIED THAT THIS WAS THE REASON.

I was also never apologized to for their original mistake. Their communication is beyond abysmal. I have no means that I'm aware of to escalate this issue to someone within the company itself despite repeated requests to their CS rep the last time I called to do so. I don't even know if I can even get my money back at this point via a chargeback even if I return the speakers I have.

AVOID ADORAMA AT ALL COSTS!!

Adorama has absolutely horrendous customer service, shipping, packaging, just about everything except those attractive prices. I can only imagine what a mess the company operates within. IMO, just stay away. I would not risk even a dollar with these guys. It's like you are buying a headache!

It's so bad I even noticed they were floating store credit on my account while this was happening. Very trusting of them to assume anyone wouldn't just go in and use the credit and think it was free money or some shit... they're beyond pathetic.

Just noticed they have a logo at the bottom of their webpage "America's best customer service 2026 Newsweek Statista". Good lord.

I've had good luck with Adorama, but this was many years ago. I hope their customer service really didn't get that bad.

It is that bad now. They have almost certainly off-shored their entire CS dept. I think the only person directly within their company I was contacted by was Ron V. listed as a "salesman" to provide me with the invoice for the wrong replacement speakers. The listed phone number on the invoice went right back to the offshore CS line and he never responded via the email listed on the invoice for him. Just atrocious.

Interesting...I was in NYC a week ago for a few days and remembered seeing an Adorama shopfront/building. Didn't go in. Wonder what I missed... 😆

That's exactly my frustration. I figured they would have the means to connect me to someone in their store or HQ. I mean they have to have people in the damn building, right?
