I don't know much about the differences between China or Japanese versions, but I've had this one for years and it's been great.

I had exactly this one. I bought it around 10 years ago. All good until around 6 yrs ago, the inner plastic lid cracked, and it can't cook properly. I tried to reach out to the company. I think it's located in NYC to get the part. They can't help me. I donated it to some thrift stores.

I have this same cooker(yes it's made in China, so what?) And it still makes fluffy white rice just like it did when I bought it. Just need to be careful washing the bowls as they scratch easily and clean the base every now and then.

The Chinese version and Japanese version have different internals and heating element setups.

Speak to it in Chinese. If it looks bewildered, then it's the Japan version.

Now seriously, the Japan version will say 'Made in Japan' on teh front digital faceplate, ususally above the start button.
