The WD Elements 8TB desktop drive is mainly attractive for shucking and bulk storage, with the 8TB size called the best value among the sale sizes. The newer post COVID units appear to use the WD80EDAZ air filled model, while older Elements and MyBook drives used the WD80EMAZ helium filled version. Pricing is the big issue here, since the deal appears to have expired or jumped to $379 at checkout, and the current per terabyte cost is being compared unfavorably with past purchases and used drives. A practical option if the listed price is still available.

  • Business-account pricing can be lower than the standard checkout price when the deal is active.

  • The business deal is framed as about 30% less per TB than other options found during the same shopping window.

  • Newer WD Elements 8TB models use the WD80EDAZ air-filled configuration, which may run differently than older helium-filled versions.

  • The WD80EDAZ model used in newer Elements 8TB drives may be similar to earlier HGST enterprise drives used for shucking.

  • Checkout on a business account can show $379 for the 8TB drive instead of the advertised $191.99.

  • The 8TB price is criticized as high per TB compared with past HDD pricing.

  • The deal can expire quickly, and the closest alternative price mentioned is a 5TB drive for $213.

  • The air-filled WD80EDAZ configuration may run hotter than older helium-filled WD80EMAZ drives.

When the first AI tech bust occurs, which is inevitable, prices will crash.
I hope you're right. This RAM and Memory Armageddon has to end. They say prices will start to come down slightly and stabilize in 2027-28, let's hope.

I know prices were getting bad, but this is just stupid. I paid $150 for a similar 8TB WD Easy Store in 2017 from BestBuy...

This is such insane price fixing and collusion to drive up prices artificially using AI as an excuse. This is even worse than the Thailand flood of 2011 which drove prices up 30-40%.

If you need storage, you're probably better off going to ebay to find used drives for sale.

Sigh. I'm now kicking myself for passing up all those deals because I didnt "need" it just then. Now look at this mess.
Same. I remember seeing those 24TB for $260 and just thinking "I don't need it now, and it'll get cheaper over time, so I'll just wait until I run out of capacity."

yep. wonderful AI boom. we are back to like 2014–2016 pricing per TB. just 2 years ago I got 20Tb drives for 180$ from server parts deals
I remember and I held off on buying something back then. I am really kicking myself.

Deal is still up for business users. Yes its pricy per tb, buts its 30% less per tb then anything else I found.as for those good old prices from 2024 its not looking good for us anytime soon.as this isn't a normal pricing cycle.- Seagate and WD have sold out nearline production through 2026, with binding hyperscaler contracts into 2028. AI datacenters are absorbing roughly two-thirds of all HDD output.- Enterprise lead times went from weeks to 12-24 months.- Morgan Stanley calls it "stronger for longer," market up to 10% undersupplied, up-cycle running to at least 2028.- TrendForce still forecasts prices rising into Q3 2026, just slower (10-15% per quarter instead of 46% in six months).Best case prices will plateau in 2027, not a reset. Waiting for discounts costs you more than buying.
Ai bust or not. it's here to stay and until production meets demand, prices are staying inflated. The amount of storage needed for AI is absurd. Look at what required if you were to host everything for onto personal use. The only way prices drop sooner if some new tech reduces memory/storage needs or new hardware emerges.. both are possible just not anytime soon

seems pricy per tb... I remember getting 16gb hdd for about $250 a few years ago.
I remember buying a refurbished 16TB HDD for $160 but then returning...
