I just came here to say that reviews for this game are very positive. However, my gaming group and I did not really enjoy it. The combat in this game is insanely swingy and RNG and kind of breaks what would be an otherwise decent game. We are a fairly advanced gaming group and play games such as Warhammer 40K and Twilight Imperium, and we found this game to be pretty lackluster compared to many other games in our collection. The reviews online make this game seem great, but it's realistically a 5/10 game at best. Just be warned so you are not as disappointed as we were.

I disagree with Bobby. I think it is great and not much more swingy than TI4 that they mentioned or say, Eclipse. I'd say Eclipse can be even worse, though there are many ways to mitigate it based on ship builds.

My only gripe is it can run long for what it is. Not as long as TI or Eclipse, but still on the long side. I mostly only have weeknights to play it can be hard to fit in. For the level of mechanics, it seems like it could be improved by streamlining things a bit.

Also, there are three types of dice and some are more risky/rewarding than others, which might change how people view how swingy it is, going for the "nicer" dice.

It's funny it's either love it or hate it. I personally love it. Our first play through everyone played conservative, which was not fun or really the way this game is. All our following playthroughs have been more action packed and fun. This is our staple mid weight game.
