Have moved away from blade type cutters and now use the small sawzalls for cutting PVC. As these blades dull, they crush the PVC causing micro-fractures before penetration and cut, even on Sched 40. Larger stock can be cut with the portable band saw. Straight cuts, no compaction or cracking. If just cutting PEX or poly, don't need a battery tool for that.

Or just use a miter saw. 🫡

But these come in really handy when you need to make a couple of hundred cuts before lunch.

Chopsaw FTW. Here's an example of what I mean about the plastic deflection and fracturing, enhanced on thinwall, slow it down to 0.25x:

I am very aware of this problem. It looks like he is cutting Sch 40 (1-1/2"?).

When a cut is made with the cordless cutter or a manual ratcheting cutter, make contact with the blade point and twist the pipe back and forth a bit to start the cut.

Problem is this becomes second-nature (the need to rock back and forth to initiate the cut), to compensate for a tool that's worse than other options, just as fast, and doesn't compromise the plastic-saws.

PVC conduit needs cutting too and deformation of the cut is of little concern in nearly any case.

From a bare hacksaw blade to a 12 inch miter saw, all of the tubing cutting techniques have compromises:
Off-angle cut profiles from ratchet cutters.
Burrs and shavings from any kind of manual saw.
Burrs, shavings and control with a portable band saw or a reciprocating saw.
Kick back and setup time for a power miter saw.


They all have pros and cons, imo.

Agreed, conduit alone is likely this tool's optimum use. I'll stick with saws for plumbing/irrigation.
