The Zojirushi Home Bakery Supreme is a premium bread machine best at making fresh, hands off loaves with very consistent results. It turns out soft, tall bread, browns more evenly than cheaper machines, and can handle mix ins, pizza dough, rolls, sticky buns, jam, and yogurt. The recipe book is useful, but the machine takes some dialing in, especially ingredient order, yeast, water, and recipe measurements. The Supreme has bottom heat only, while the Virtuoso adds top heat and more presets. A dependable pick if you want bakery style bread at home and are willing to learn its quirks.

  • Home bakers who want hands-off fresh loaves overnight, because it can produce soft, tall bread in a couple hours with consistent rising and browning.

  • Recipe tinkerers who like dialing in bread formulas, because small changes to yeast, water, ingredient order, and gram-based recipes improve results.

  • Bread lovers chasing more even crust color and rise than cheaper machines, because it bakes more evenly and gives more consistent loaves.

  • Families baking several loaves a week, because it handles regular weekly use and also makes rolls, sticky buns, pizza, and stromboli.

  • Shoppers who want a plug-and-play machine with no learning curve, because recipes, ingredient order, yeast type, and water ratios may need adjustment.

  • Households satisfied with store bread, because homemade loaves can be made cheaply and the machine is most compelling when you bake regularly.

  • Buyers who only need small 1.5 to 2 pound loaves, because a smaller breadmaker can fit that use case with less counter space.

  • People looking for a sourdough flavor shortcut, because the sourdough program can taste like plain bread rather than tangy sourdough.

i'm just about 'fed' up with what is passed off as bread in the grocery stores. i know i spend $300 a year on store bought bread. i'm fairly tempted.
We found a brand, Rustik, at the grocery store and my wife like the texture a lot -- namely their sourdough. The problem is, it's a half a round loaf for $6!!! There is probably 4-6 usable slices, the rest are too small to make a sandwich, etc. I told her the cost is too high as we were running out of bread every day or three. So you're right...super expensive for what costs a few dimes to make.

This is very nice but I have a $40 one from Best Buy I used to use more often and it makes perfect bread. Just set it at night with the ingredients and you get up to fresh bread in the morning. I think it is from Bella.

Get it, you wont be disappointed - we rarely buy store bread after getting this. Worth every penny.

Rustik Oven makes full loaves as well -- the CA bold sourdough is the one to look for. If your local store doesn't carry you might see if they can special order from the distributor. We eat (toasted) so much of the CA bold sourdough that I'm here trying to find a good unit to start making my own.

can you explain why? that would be helpful when you make comments like that.
it's newer refined tech with an integrated heater, bakes more evenly. also more preset options. I traded up last year during a $330 sale and can notice the improvement

That is true...it's their normal sourdough (which actually has no sourdough flavor) that is half loaves but $6! I recently tried Sam's Club round loaf sourdough. It's less than $4 for a whole loaf and has a great texture (to me) and sourdough taste. Perfectly sliced (not too thick or thin) too.

Same. I love my cheap Vevor, it has 2 mixers and makes great loafs.
$75 on Ali (cashback available too), make sure to select the 3lb version:

Zojirushi is the rolls royce of breadmakers, I have the supreme and it makes excellent bread, while being hands off. I dump the ingredients in at night and wake up to soft , tall , fluffy, homemade bread. The benefit to the virtuoso is really the additional heating element on top, where the supreme only has a heating element on the bottom. Though I have no problem with the supreme, if your bread rises enough, it gets close enough to the top lid that the heat radiates off of the inside of the lid and gets very toasted on top without needing the additional heating element.

There will be a learning curve with finding a recipe that works well. When you make bread by hand, you can adjust the rise time and bake time to fit your recipe. With bread makers it's the other way around, you adjust the recipe to fit the rise time and bake time that is programmed into the machine. The order you put the ingredients in also matters, as well as the temperature. As well as the type of yeast. Most important tip is to use recipes that are measured in grams, for easily repeatable results. Cups of flour are incredibly inaccurate.

I got mine brand new on facebook for 50 dollars.... a lot of people get these as gifts and don't put in the effort to figure it out... like I said, a bit of a learning curve if you're new to bread machines or making bread in general.

Forgot to mention, i think this model is on sale because they are rolling out new versions with ceramic baking pans instead of teflon.

If you don't want to spend this much and are good with 1.5 - 2 lb loaves, I've been using this cuisinart every week for the past couple years. It doesn't use much counter space and works great. https://a.co/d/084WLnfC

Wait for a Virtuoso sale, it's worth the extra cost
Have you ever seen sales on the Virtuoso with the ceramic parts? Been looking for a bit now and haven't seen it.

I've had this unit since Covid. I know it's pricey but if you can somehow afford this, don't blink, just get it. I have fresh bread on-demand of my own recipes at least 2x a week, only a handful of fresh ingredients (not like the 20+ ingredients in grocery store bread to keep it soft and shelf stable). And the taste is amazing. You won't regret it.
I've had this since 2019 and it is incredible. I've had 2 different cheap ones from Westinghouse and some other cheap brand and both worked OK but I got inconsistent crust browning and rising whereas this one produces much more evenly browned loaves and more consistent rise, and this one has dozens of more settings to make a bunch of other things such as yogurt, jam, etc. I'll bet you could make clotted cream with this too using one of the settings that most similarly mimics how you'd make it in the oven. This one has a function that alerts you when you can add mix-ins such as nuts or dried fruit during the bread kneeding procedure so it is easy to do that because it beeps really loud so I can hear it from the other side of the house. The basic recipe for white bread is even better if you sub 1/3 wheat flour instead of using all white flour, and use Kingman flour because it produces better and more consistent rise, crumb, flavor, and texture than any other big brand I've tried. It is also less than half the price of grocery stores if you buy the 10lb bag from Costco vs 5lb bags from Albertsons/Smiths/VONS/Kroger/etc. I've also found no difference in performance between Fleschman's Bread Machine yeast (blue lid) and their regular yeast (red lid) so I just use the regular red lid stuff for everything.

I've been making my own bread in machines since the prices dropped in the mid 90s. You can often find a Panasonic, BreadMan, NIB for $10. They all make excellent bread.

I've been making homemade bread for 10+ years for my family. I have this recipe that uses only milk and heavy cream but it's amazing, and the fat keeps the bread soft and fresh for longer time, but my kids are finally tired of it so we recently started buying store bread again. 🤷 edit: I have the bb-pdc20 model, not exactly this one.
What's your recipe please
