This Milwaukee M12 FUEL stubby impact wrench combo is a compact, high torque setup that shines in tight spaces and still has plenty of punch for small to medium automotive work. The 1,2 inch drive is the better fit for lug nuts and suspension jobs, while the included high output battery adds value. The main knock is price, since similar 1,2 inch and battery bundles have been cheaper before, and 3,8 inch versions and socket sets tend to go on sale more often. A solid compact option if the larger drive matches the work you actually do.

  • The stubby 1/2in impact wrench can deliver strong results in a compact form factor for tight work areas.

  • Using 1/2in drive with impact-rated sockets can help transfer torque effectively, and heavier sockets may improve performance.

  • The 3/8 drive option can improve access because impact sockets are typically shorter than 1/2 sockets.

  • The 3/8 version can offer slightly better torque performance than the 1/2 version while still keeping the 1/2 option strong.

  • The stubby 1/2in setup may be less ideal for lug nuts, where a 1/2 drive is generally preferred for those applications.

  • The $206 combo price can feel worse than earlier deal levels, with some history citing about $120 for the combo.

  • The 1/2in model may not reach the same discount frequency as the 3/8 version, which can make this deal less common.

  • Using adapters or extensions to run 3/8 sockets on a 1/2in setup can reduce torque output.

lol so wierd how people are downvoting this comment. I got this exact new model in 3/8 w battery for $159 last year.
That's because 1/2 is a different model, not the same as 3/8. And 1/2 with a battery has never been on sale for less than $200ish.

Need one. Does anyone have opinion of whether better to have 3/8 in or 1/2 in?
3/8 goes on sale more often, as do compatible socket sets. So unless you specifically need 1/2, I'd go with 3/8. I had the same dilemma some time ago and went with 1/2, but looking back, I'd go with 3/8 now.

I've got a set of Vevor 1/2" impact sockets, purchased from a previous Slick Deal, waiting for a driver like this. I don't do a lot of heavy wrenching these days, though. Still, the price is only going to keep going up, so now is a reasonable time to buy!

Without battery it was $120, with battery it was $160 about a year ago
The last year comments grow old. There is this thing called inflation. If you had said that the price was lower just a few months ago that might hold some water but last year is just silly at this point. No one here has a time machine.

I was only correcting the original person who said it was for $120 before though lol otherwise I wouldn't comment about what price it's been before. If people were to actually read they would realize that.

I would get the 1/2" and use an adapter if you needed to use 3/8" sockets.
You loose torque each time you use an adapter or extension. (I have heard 10-15%)
Better to step down than get a 3/8 unit and have to step up when that would be when you need the most torque.

3/8 impact sockets typically are shorter than 1/2. Working with car brake calipers or changing front hubs, sometime a few mm's shorter is all it take to get access to the hardest bolt to break it loose

Thank you quiteHelpful. The 3/8 in is not on sale for 206 but is 224. Seems a smallDifference in price
3/8 has a tiiiiny bit better performance than the 1/2 according to torque test on YouTube but the 1/2 is great.

What makes you say you would rather have the 3/8" than the 1/2"? I'm debating between the two.

Just the fact that the 3/8 goes on sale regularly while the 1/2 doesn't. The same applies to sockets as well.

For this amount of torque you're going to be happier being able to fit thinner and shorter 3/8 sockets in tighter spots like behind a brake caliper etc. This isn't great for 1/2" applications like lug nuts

Exactly! Due to the great HD Milwaukee bundle deals in 2024, most folks have quite a few laying around if you didn't just return them for a refund/store credit.
