Thanks to Deal Hunter phoinix for finding this deal.

Features:
  • Versatile Applications: This 5-inch cutter is ideal for electronics, jewelry, 3D printing, cable ties, and DIY projects. It cleanly cuts wires, PCB pins, jump rings, plastic rods, and zip ties—perfect for home, hobby, or professional use.
  • High Carbon Steel & Sharp Blade: Crafted from heat-treated 65Mn high carbon steel (50±5 HRC hardness), the blades deliver clean, precise cuts for copper wire (up to 30 AWG), iron wire (up to 18 AWG), and plastic rods (up to 3.0 mm). An anti-rust black finish ensures lasting durability.
  • Angled Jaw & Return Spring: The 21° angled head provides easy access to tight spaces. A built-in return spring with a durable rivet ensures smooth rebound after each cut, improving efficiency and reducing hand fatigue.
  • Ergonomic Non-Slip Handle: The high-visibility orange PVC grips are non-slip and ergonomically shaped for a secure, comfortable hold, reducing strain during frequent or extended use.
  • Safety & Maintenance: To extend tool life, avoid cutting hard steel, piano wire, or other high-tension metals. Use only on soft metals and plastics. Always wear safety goggles and store in a dry place to prevent rust.

Cuts 'up to' 30AWG copper wire. This other set cuts up to 18AWG copper. Still not great but thicker than 30AWG, for 65cents more.

I use these for all kinds of things, not just dnd minitures and 3d printing projects. They are good enough.

The wire capacity ratings on these make no sense. "precise cuts for copper wire (up to 30 AWG), iron wire (up to 18 AWG), and plastic rods (up to 3.0 mm)". If they can cut 18AWG iron wire, then they should definitely be able to cut way thicker copper wire than 30AWG. Probably more like 10-12AWG, so why the big description discrepancy then?

generally, single edge nippers are preferred for plastic models. The ones that have a single bevel blade opposite an 'anvil' style jaw.

When you lose the other 5?! Big Grin
I keep a couple near my 3D printer as well.

Like tape measures, I have one in almost every room in the house.
If there isn't one there, I get aggrivated and have to chase one down. Cool

I'd rather spend $4 on a single good set.

Anyone who's had a pair of these for very long realizes that their value in large part is based on the complete and precise sharpness of both edges, which can be easily damaged by various metals (As discussed here). The idea behind getting 6 is you can dispose of them instead of trying to resharpen, WHEN (not if) the cutting edges show wear.

Sure you can "just buy one really nice pair" but if you live in a house with kids who do crafts they will inevitably end up trying to cut a paperclip in half or some other horror and you will be crying about your $35 knipex needing to be professionally resharpened instead of just tossing them and grabbing a fresh set.

Note the ones you linked are 5 pairs ($1.80/ea), while the original post is for 6 pairs ($1.39/ea), it's ~30% more expensive per pair. It's really dependent upon your usage case if it's necessary for the "upgrade".

I've been spoiled by Xcelite cutters. I still have the one I bought nearly 30 years ago. It's been used regularly as well.
