Southwest's 40 percent off base fare promo looks strongest for flexible travelers chasing specific routes or off peak times, especially where Southwest offers more direct service. The deal can be improved with Southwest gift cards from DoorDash at 10 percent off, and one Austin to Tampa round trip came in at $219. But the sale often hides behind inflated base fares, airport and carrier fees, and hard to search fare calendars, so the final price can land above last week's fares or even above Alaska, Delta, or other airlines.
Common Questions (4)
No. Several routes were reported as higher than last week's prices or higher than competing airlines, including examples where the promo added $500 on a family trip or priced a route above Alaska.
Often not by much. The discount applies only to the base fare, while airport, 911, and carrier fees remain, so the total trip price can stay close to other airlines or even end up higher.
No. The sale can be hard to verify in Southwest's search or fare calendar, and you may need to check airports one by one because not every route or date shows the discount clearly.
Yes. Buying Southwest gift cards through DoorDash for 10% off can reduce the effective cost and soften a weak fare sale.

Fine SW they can have the Chicago airports, but ppl in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, where SW used to have nice deals, ppl have now experienced SW is never a good value now. Like in many many many other threads, tons of people have proof & evidence that there are other greater slickdeals that offer more days & MORE FLIGHTS at about $220 nonstop round trip, we all have posted tons of times our flights. We're all saying SW is now a Luke warm deal, majority of ppl are not finding flights, & posting reviews of not finding flights. SW sales are strictly average to below average, & most of the time are now a waste of time searching, for a ton of us now.
