Southwest's 40 percent off base fare promo looks strongest for flexible travelers chasing specific routes or off peak times, especially where Southwest offers more direct service. The deal can be improved with Southwest gift cards from DoorDash at 10 percent off, and one Austin to Tampa round trip came in at $219. But the sale often hides behind inflated base fares, airport and carrier fees, and hard to search fare calendars, so the final price can land above last week's fares or even above Alaska, Delta, or other airlines.
