Just a reminder that this brand went downhill ever since Walmart bought it.

If you think Hisense and TCL are mediocre, Vizio has become ten times worse.

I wouldn't even try connecting these to the internet, because you know Walmart has spyware on them.

My 50" Hisense fell over twice outside from a storm. Still works fine. TCL 65" just decided to stop working after 3 years. Frown

The capacitors go out on these very frequently and can affect their ability to power on. Unfortunate, because it's a 15 cent part.

You can buy a whole bag of them to fix 10 years worth of TVs for under $15 and an iron kit with tons of extras for around $10.

Starting on a TV that you think you have to toss is the best way — nothing to lose!

One important note: Capacitors are polarized, so you can't install them backwards.

Great comment!!!! Much better to reuse these TVs rather than wind up in the landfill.

That's my opinion as well.

Just wanted to give a baseline on how bad Vizio now is for those who think Hisense and TCL are bottom tier.

I have a 55" Hisense with something like 30,000 hours on it.

Still going strong after two capacitor replacements.

It's really silly how often very easily sourced and easy to replace components go out on control boards, with few people attempting to fix them.

Back when things ran on vacuum tubes, changing a blown tube was something people did regularly.

The sad part is that tools to make repairs are so much more readily available and cheaper, yet these corporations have everyone convinced that a TV ending up in a landfill after 5 years is perfectly normal.

I bought this Vizio and this Hisense and compared side by side. I ended up returning the Vizio.

Way back in 2007 my family bought a 50" vizio plasma from Costco last off and on for a couple years before green and pink vertical lines. Spent another &400 for repairs and lasted about a year before it wouldn't turn on anymore black screen.

Eventually replaced it with a 2019 $300 Hisense 65" tv which still works today. And gets used frequently. Only issue it has weak WiFi but mainly used with cable tv anyways and not much steaming

Uh, nope.

Do your research: https://www.ftc.gov/business-guid...-tv-screen

And this happened BEFORE Walmart bought them and turned up the spyware to 11.

But maybe you don't consider forcing your users to log in with a Walmart account to be a bad thing?
