This Surface Laptop Go 2 is a compact Windows 11 machine best suited to light everyday use, with a solid build, quality display, WiFi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1. The 8GB of RAM can handle email, browsing, shopping, YouTube, and other basic tasks, and the SSD is upgradable despite being the smaller 2230 M.2 NVMe type. The main drawbacks are the non upgradable memory, the 128GB storage limit, weak battery expectations on a refurbished unit, and a sparse port selection. The trackpad also draws criticism, making it a practical but constrained little laptop.

  • The SSD uses an M.2 NVMe short form factor (2230) and can be upgraded.

  • The laptop can handle Windows 11 for light tasks like email, browsing, and YouTube.

  • Daily non-gaming use can stay smooth over years, with the main limitation being smaller storage.

  • Decrapifying or debloating Windows 11 can make 8GB RAM feel more usable.

  • The 8GB RAM is non-upgradable, which can limit long-term usefulness.

  • The 128GB SSD size can be a bigger practical limitation than the RAM.

  • Port availability is a concern on this model.

  • Trackpads on these Surface devices can be horrible, which affects everyday usability.

It'll work fine. I have an old SP Pro 4 that I semi retired a few years ago. I trot it out once a year to do taxes on. It's got returns going back about 7 years on it. Then it goes back in the bag for the next year. Not the fastest, but works good for that.
TurboTax made windows 11 a hard requirement. I just don't want to upgrade from win 10 and mess it up

I got a Surface GO years ago used for $99. Just make a Tiny11 .iso to run it lean. I mostly use it to RDP/VPN home so its just a dumb terminal really. They have quality displays on them too.

hella cheap but these specs are almost e-waste territory

Ehh.. I would pass on this spec. I got a Surface Laptop 3 i7 16 GB and 256 SSD for $180 off eBay in April. Great little laptop for household stuff with Windows 11 installed. I do appreciate the Surface laptops feel solid and well built.

Lack of ports is a concern. Decent deal though.

Wonder if it can run Crisis and make me coffee.

Seriously though, for $163 this deal is absolutely incredible.
ALL of the specs only serve to further prove it, not take away from it.

any idea if it's working when soldering a 16GB lpddr4 chip to replace the 8gb one?
Good idea but probably not worth the risk, even if it works - and would also void the warranty.

No, I really do think a laptop in 2026 with only 8gb of ram NON UPGRADABLE is a deal breaker....no matter how cheap...I hate it when companies dont let you upgrade the ram...this laptop would be fine for someone on a budget or student, I guess...but its already out of date for alot of people

I appreciate you pointing it out...was tempted to get one until I saw that

Via quick search:

https://www.reddit.com/r/lowspecg...g_in_2026/

"Been running 8GB RAM for a while now and honestly for the games I play it's been fine — but I keep seeing people say 16GB is the new minimum even for casual gaming."

Even for gaming, it is fine for millions of people.

Funny how those saying "No" (via link) don't explain why at all.
Read the thread for some good info.

When was the last time you saw ANY laptop, other than a gaming laptop, that had upgradeable RAM? They don't exist.

"no matter how cheap"

Ok, buy 20 for $50 each and I'll buy them all for $100 each. You double your money!

Of course, you won't find them for $100. You won't find them for $150. You won't even find them for $160. $163 is the cheapest possible for a refurb with a 1 year warranty, and that's why this deal is so amazing.
