This Surface Laptop Go 2 is a compact Windows 11 machine best suited to light everyday use, with a solid build, quality display, WiFi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1. The 8GB of RAM can handle email, browsing, shopping, YouTube, and other basic tasks, and the SSD is upgradable despite being the smaller 2230 M.2 NVMe type. The main drawbacks are the non upgradable memory, the 128GB storage limit, weak battery expectations on a refurbished unit, and a sparse port selection. The trackpad also draws criticism, making it a practical but constrained little laptop.

  • The SSD uses an M.2 NVMe short form factor (2230) and can be upgraded.

  • The laptop can handle Windows 11 for light tasks like email, browsing, and YouTube.

  • Daily non-gaming use can stay smooth over years, with the main limitation being smaller storage.

  • Decrapifying or debloating Windows 11 can make 8GB RAM feel more usable.

  • The 8GB RAM is non-upgradable, which can limit long-term usefulness.

  • The 128GB SSD size can be a bigger practical limitation than the RAM.

  • Port availability is a concern on this model.

  • Trackpads on these Surface devices can be horrible, which affects everyday usability.

128GB SSD is actually more of a concern than 8GB RAM.
If the SSD can be upgraded, that makes the deal even more amazing!

8GB non-upgradable. SSD is M.2 NVMe short form factor (2230 I think) and is upgradable.
Thanks, repped! nod

any idea if it's working when soldering a 16GB lpddr4 chip to replace the 8gb one?
Would that motherboard support the expanded ram? I am betting it wouldn't.

Part of the Ad says "Windows 10 in S mode" and another "Operating System
Windows 11 Pro". Which is it?

I got a Surface GO years ago used for $99. Just make a Tiny11 .iso to run it lean. I mostly use it to RDP/VPN home so its just a dumb terminal really. They have quality displays on them too.
This.

Decrapifiying Win 11 can make 8GB totally usable.

I just bought a Dell AI PC with 32 GB ram from Dell outlet and found out that just GPU/NPU would reserve 18GB ram. I wonder how these 8GB ram PCs work now a day.

there's always a way to "expand" but with what cost. Soldering station and related accessories, soldering skills with learning curve, lpddr4 memory chips, motherboard boardview, of course the risk of losing warranty.

Linux is constantly improving but it's not ready for basic consumers until you can do EVERYTHING outside terminal.

Can't believe in 2026 that I have to edit a config file in Ubuntu to change what closing the lid does.

If you are going to pay somebody to NOT send it you (negative value), just send me your money.
