8GB non-upgradable. SSD is M.2 NVMe short form factor (2230 I think) and is upgradable.

I can't be bothered to dig into it myself, but I see a fair few resources about putting Linux on Surface laptops including this one.

any idea if it's working when soldering a 16GB lpddr4 chip to replace the 8gb one?

Bought a laptop off woot that released the same year as this one (2022) with nearly identical specs and it functions surprisingly well on Windows 11. I think it's the perfect laptop for a grandparent or someone who is only using it to check emails, browse and shop online, and watch youtube videos. Granted there are tablets that can do the same thing, but for people who prefer a computer with a physical keyboard and touchpad or mouse controls I think this is perfect and indeed a slick deal.

With how much resources modern internet browsers hog on my gaming pc, I assumed a laptop with only 8gb ram would chug and take forever to load, but these older laptops can handle it as long as you dont have 20+ browser tabs open and a second monitor connected or something lol. Only concern would be whether or not the battery health is actually 80% or higher as I've never heard of refurbished laptops having batteries swapped out and this is still a 4 year old laptop at the end of the day.

Came to look since it's very cheap. Though it's a laptop, I bet this needs to stay plugged in. Even new laptops that say 4-5 hour battery life barely last 90 minutes. An 11" tablet, purchase a keyboard and stand might be around $250, but tradeoff is that it's new, and truly portable. I'm still using a 15.6", 8gb RAM, 500gb SSD, 8+ years old. This has wifi6, and bt 5.1. Some cheap HD Tv's still come with wifi4. It's a slick deal.

I need something for TurboTax. Can't be any worse than what I'm using now. A 2016 Lenovo Yoga gen 1 that I never returned to my old job when I quit 😂

typing from a Neo. this is not a bad price. It's less than half the raw performance and storage of the Neo. I used to think quad core and 8gb of ram would be fine even snappy for almost any basic compute (15 years ago). I dunno if intel laptop cores have gotten way worse than sandy bridge desktop, but it quad core doesn't mean snappy anymore on modern intel laptops.

Basically, kinda sucks but good for the money. Also win 11 will probably come out with optimizations. for 8gb as the ram crisis is ongoing. 8gb is good enough for the price.

This is a great laptop and solid enough for most usage if a non gamer. I have one of these and an older surface laptop go 1 I've been using daily the last 3 years with still no issues. Disk size is smaller than I like but if you don't load it Auth videos, you should be fine
