Yes, it is an important distinction. But to be clear, the audiobooks stay in your library, but you can only listen to them when you are a member. So if in a year you are a member again, the books will become available.
Be sure to choose a book each month with Standard. Unlike credits, the ability to choose a book does not carry over, it is lost.
Also, with Standard there seems to be no member discount on non-sale books, so the prices are impractically high. Those deals where you get a $20 credit turn out not to be what they seem.
Staff for sure should know when you post a deal for Audible, you explain if it's the standard plan and what that means. Many people will think this is the deal where you get a credit each month for a book you can keep, whereas it's for the deal where you pay to borrow a book each month. AND you don't even get member sale pricing or the Audible listening library.
For .99, that may still be worth it to some people who are happy to pay to borrow audiobooks, esp if Audible has some you're having trouble getting from your library. But it's a HUGE difference from the plan that you would've gotten a year or so ago on these deals, and it's BS to not make it clear which plan it is.
Audible Standard here is a pay to borrow plan for one audiobook a month, best for short term listening and titles you only expect to hear once. The selected book stays playable while the membership is active, and downloads work for offline listening in the app. The monthly choice does not carry over, and once the plan ends the books become inaccessible. It also lacks the usual member discounts and library perks, so the value depends on whether temporary access is enough.
Listeners who finish one audiobook a month, because Standard lets you keep that month's selection available while the membership stays active.
You get one audiobook per month. You must use that monthly selection during the membership period, because the ability to choose does not carry over to later months.
No. You can listen to each monthly selection only while the Standard membership is active, and the books become inaccessible once the plan lapses or is canceled. The titles stay in your library as long as the membership remains active.
Yes. Standard gives you a monthly audiobook you can listen to only while subscribed, and it does not include the usual keep-forever credit model or member pricing on non-sale books.
Yes, you can download them in the app for offline listening while your membership is active. Once the membership ends, the downloads no longer remain playable.

Yep, you must finish listening to that book during that month. So if you needed extra motivation to listen to an audiobook, this is the plan for you as you're on a timer. If you didn't finish it you could choose the same book again as your selection for the next month but it's not the most efficient use your membership to do that. Standard membership does make the premium membership look much more attractive given you can listen to the book you used a credit on any time later with premium, even after your membership is over.
No, that's not correct unless your membership ends at the end of that month. While a member of Audible Standard, you can select a new book no more often than once a month. But if you are still listening to last month's book, that's fine. You can listen to that one book for as long as you want to until your membership ends. But you can't get a new book until you do, even if it is a new month.
I have standard from the previous prime day thread, I can still listen to the audiobooks from month 1. They will stay active as long as you have an active membership, I currently have all three lord of the rings books and am able to listen to them at anytime. Once the membership lapses the books are locked until you start a new membership.
Me too, I have the standard plan. I just went and checked if I could listen to a prior month's loan. Audible shows the book as being in my library, but when I play it, at first it said something about playing a sample and I could buy the book if I wanted to listen. I went back in again just now to see exactly how it was worded, and it seems to now be letting me listen to the book.
I think it's a glitch, Audible clearly stated you are only supposed to get the book for one month, and they must not have refined how they set that up. If I tried to relisten to that book, I have no idea if at some point it would go back to not letting me access it.

from the audible site, it is listed as this "Select a credit-free monthly audiobook: You can select 1 audiobook a month from the entire Audible collection of 1 million titles and grow your Library over time, and it's yours to keep in your Library as long as your membership is active." I anticipate when my membership lapses on the 22nd I will lose access but they are still available for now. I'm unsure if they changed this, its possible they got some feedback about it and changed their rules on how long they last (very likely since others were also under the impression you only have 1 month to listen) keep sharing that feedback and maybe they will make it more like premium
Audible has prime member exclusive for $0.99 for first 4 months of standard membership. This is my first SD post. I hope it helps someone who enjoys reading & audiobooks such as myself.
This is also the membership where you can only listen to your selected books while you're a member. So if you quit after those 4 months the 4 books are inaccessible
Most people complained about audible standard but let's keep in mind it does count towards your daily listening streak. So eventually it will pay for itself and more. I myself will use audible standard for books I know will be a one time listen.
Great deal for 99ยข! It lets you borrow an audiobook a month (and it's a borrow, you don't keep it).
Not a great deal for the normal $8.99.
To be clear, you do keep the audiobook as long as you keep your membership.
But the Annual Premium membership can often be found (or requested in Audible's chat) for $99.99 or $85.99, both work out cheaper than the $8.99 per month. Premium lets you:
* Pick one audiobook per month to keep (even after you cancel)
* Unlimited borrows from their plus catalog (these you don't keep if you're not a member, like a streaming service does).
* Participate in discounted sales and 2-for-1 sales (you keep).
* To be clear, the annual deal gives you all 12 credits at once (you keep).
So I do some 2-for-1 sales (my credits were $7.17, so I'm basically paying $3.59 per audiobook), discounted sales (my average cost is under $4 per audiobook), and I use the credits for more expensive audiobooks that tend to not go on sale.
