I just load my kindle up with a bunch of titles before the subscrition ends. Then put it in Airplane mode until I'm finished reading them all.

I am a current subscriber and it did not offer me this deal. However, when started to cancel my membership, I was offered 3 months for $9.99. Not free but a less than $35.97 for the next 3 months. YMMV.

Kindle Unlimited is a reading subscription that works best for light readers, magazine browsing, and grabbing discounted audiobook add ons after checking out a book. The offer can also be stretched by loading titles before the subscription ends and reading offline in airplane mode. Eligibility appears inconsistent, though, since current or returning subscribers may see no free deal or a shorter offer like 30 days, 1 month, or $9.99 for 3 months. It is a useful trial if the catalog fits your reading habits.

Common Questions (5)

  • Eligibility is inconsistent. A current subscriber may not see the free 3-month offer, and a returning user who used the promo before was not eligible this time; cancel-flow retention offers can still appear, such as 3 months for $9.99.

    PluckyBorderAmmo8FaithfulDime812

  • Non-Prime members may see a 1-month offer instead of the full 3 months. Some accounts also appear to get the promo again about once a year, around August.

    RandomGen123ShakaKahn

  • Yes, if you download the titles before the subscription ends, you can keep reading them offline in Airplane mode until you finish. That only works for already downloaded books, not new borrows after the membership expires.

    nottrollin

  • No, Kindle Unlimited does not include Comixology Unlimited. The comic section is separate from the Kindle Unlimited subscription.

    aendil

  • Yes, it can be a cheap way to get audiobooks by checking out a Kindle book and then buying the audiobook add-on at the discounted price. That makes the subscription useful even if you mainly want audio.

I did it last time June 2 and it expired Sept 2. I was not eligible this time. I only used it for the last two weeks but it was fun while I did.

Kindle "unlimited" but the selection is extremely limited. rarely are any of my desired books available. And you're limited in the number of concurrent checkouts too. Amazon likely sells this as an aspirational membership, like gyms, and it's hardly used

That is so freakin smart. I'm gonna try that with my streaming subs. Download everything I want to watch and play dead right before it expires.

Not a prime member, but it offered me 1mo. Pretty sure I get this offer annually - it resets around August each year and I can claim it again. There are never that many titles I want on KU anyway so I cancel in between.

This is/can be a good way to pick up cheap audiobooks. Think it's still the same, but you check out the book then purchase the audiobook add on for the discounted price
