This isn't even worth getting for free because when, not if, the software bugs out and it ruins even 1 dish of yours, that will cost you more in ruined food than you paid for this. Get the latest Anova model that does NOT have WiFi built in called the Anova 3.0 because it is stainless steel and has a better clamp design that fits a wider range of containers. The Nano 2.0 is also an OK alternative but that one is all plastic and will become brittle and crack after maybe 4-5yrs of regular use whereas the Anova 3.0 has the stainless steel bottom section so it will last longer.
Community Reviews
This compact Anova sous vide cooker is mainly appealing as a cheap way to try precise water bath cooking, with several reports that it holds temperature well and turns out steaks, chicken, shrimp, and pork nicely. The low price also makes it easy to test before upgrading, and the unit itself still has physical controls. The main drawback is Anova's app and subscription setup, since push notifications and some features sit behind a paywall, and the lack of buttons on newer models is a recurring complaint. A practical starter pick if app limits do not matter much.
Common Questions (5)
Basic cooking can be done without paying for the subscription, but app features like push notifications and multi-device support are behind the paywall. Existing accounts created before August 21, 2024 can reportedly use the app for free after contacting support.
The newer app-focused models are described as lacking physical controls, but older Anova units still work from the onboard wheel and button. That matters if you want to avoid relying on a phone while cooking.
At $19.99, it is a low-risk way to try sous vide, especially since similar cookers are said to sell for $29.99 at Walmart and Best Buy. Several comments also describe the unit as working well at this price.
It has been reported to hold temperature accurately and cook steaks, chicken breast, shrimp, pork chops, and loins successfully. One use case described ribeyes coming out perfectly, with restaurant-style results after searing.
The free-shipping code can show as invalid on some shipping options, but it reportedly works when the monthly membership option is selected. In that setup, the membership fee is charged and then deducted from the item price.

i doubt anyone buying this for that purpose would already have an account with anova, but awhile ago they offered app use for free for legacy users after a user revolt over the switch to paid, so if you already have an anova account, you can use the app for free after contacting their customer support:

"Existing customers who have an account with us before August 21st, 2024, will not be charged a subscription fee."
You can get a 12 L food storage containers for like $15 bucks on amazon.
