This isn't even worth getting for free because when, not if, the software bugs out and it ruins even 1 dish of yours, that will cost you more in ruined food than you paid for this. Get the latest Anova model that does NOT have WiFi built in called the Anova 3.0 because it is stainless steel and has a better clamp design that fits a wider range of containers. The Nano 2.0 is also an OK alternative but that one is all plastic and will become brittle and crack after maybe 4-5yrs of regular use whereas the Anova 3.0 has the stainless steel bottom section so it will last longer.
Community Reviews
This compact Anova sous vide cooker is mainly appealing as a cheap way to try precise water bath cooking, with several reports that it holds temperature well and turns out steaks, chicken, shrimp, and pork nicely. The low price also makes it easy to test before upgrading, and the unit itself still has physical controls. The main drawback is Anova's app and subscription setup, since push notifications and some features sit behind a paywall, and the lack of buttons on newer models is a recurring complaint. A practical starter pick if app limits do not matter much.
The unit can work well for occasional steak and other protein cooks at home.
The lack of physical controls may still be workable for users who rely on the mobile app.
The cooker can maintain set temperature accurately during sous vide cooking.
Existing Anova accounts may be able to use the app without a subscription fee after contacting support.
Push notifications in the Anova app can be paywalled, which can require separate timers or frequent checking.
The app can be buggy on newer WiFi models and may stop cooking or raise temperature to maximum.
Multi-device support and other app features can be paywalled, which can limit convenience for households.
Some checkout shipping options can show the free-ship coupon as invalid even when the monthly membership flow applies it.

My only issue with the app is that push notifications are behind the paywall so it doesn't tell you when your food is done you have to set a separate timer once the bath reaches temperature or keep checking the app. I think the indicator light on the unit changes color when the timer is up but it's not really clear.
For occasional use, such as mine, it's relatively minor annoyance, but if you plan on using it frequently I'd spring for the $10/yr for the app or more likely buy a more expensive model with better features.
