I bought a 16X and it's a lemon. To make it operate we had to use old drivers and cap the GPU.
Google 16X Alienware BSOD and there still isn't an update
Maybe that's why this is cheap?

"Whatever you gain in portability" I mean... you gain infinite, because a desktop tower is by definition not portable.
It's like saying "A corvette is better than a truck, and not worth whatever ability to tow a large boat you gain". Like if you need to tow a boat, then a Corvette is worthless.
Also, I have never had problems with heat, but I take the time to read reviews, and not just buy whatever is cheapest or has the highest specs on paper. Everything with a laptop is about tradeoffs, and deciding which ones matter. If you are already to the point of saying "I need something I can use in multiple places with ease" then a tower isn't in the discussion.
It's like the people who respond to every windows PC discussion with "just get a mac", like my guy nobody is cross shopping a gaming laptop/desktop with a M5 mini or whatever. That isn't how this works lol.
And that's great, but if I need portability, the idea of a tower "being better" is nonsense. It's just not in the discussion.

Seriously, you are being actively weirdly obtuse about this. Not responding further. Nobody buying a 1k+ laptop is a "entry level consumer".
I'm not arguing further, you can continue to rebuttal with "but tower better" as if that matters to someone who needs a laptop. You are arguing that Corvettes are best because they are fast, ignoring that some people have different use cases that leave Corvettes from even being worth considering.

No, that is again you missing the point. if portability IS A FACTOR AT ALL get a laptop, because a tower ISN'T PORTABLE. I already explained this and you had to weirdly "Well ATCHUALLY I sometimes move my tower!" like... come on dude, just give it up.
If portability is your main factor, not only should you get a laptop, you should probably get a non gaming one, or a specialty gaming one for that use case.
