This keychain multi tool is best as a compact box opener and backup screwdriver for times when a knife or full tool is not nearby. It has held up for years in daily carry, and the current version adds useful extras like a Phillips head, nail puller, and serrated edge. The bottle opener, flathead, and pry bar feel redundant to some, and the taped box use can leave gunk on keys. TSA concerns and cheaper similar tools elsewhere also come up, making it a handy but niche carry.
Common Questions (5)
Some buyers think the $8.79 price is high for what it does, especially compared with similar tools sold for around $2 on AliExpress. Others say it is worth it because it has lasted for years and is useful in a pinch.
The Gerber Shard is described as better for box opening and having a sharper cutting edge, while the Nite Ize key tool is said to be cheaper and more functional. The Kershaw still gets preferred by some users for everyday keychain carry.
It can work for ripping or poking into box tape, but it is not a great cutter. It is still handy when you want a keychain tool instead of pulling out a pocket knife, especially for quick box opening.
It has been carried through TSA on a key ring, but keychain tools with sharp edges or longer profiles can still be confiscated. If you fly often, it is safer to keep it out of your bag and check current TSA rules before traveling.
Yes. It is especially handy if you use keypad entry and only carry a car remote, since it gives you a small tool on the same key ring without needing traditional house keys.

Less safe but much better cutting edge/point

Or the Kershaw PT-2 is also way more useful, with a sharper edge for boxes.

"Stopped", meaning they flagged the bag and looked at it, and then you went on with it, right? I've never been stopped because of my Shard. The wine cork screw (which is totally TSA compliant) gets me stopped every time I carry it on.
