This CyberPower pure sine wave UPS is aimed at keeping a PC, NAS, router, or home server running cleanly through brownouts and outages, with enough headroom for safe shutdowns and monitoring through USB or NUT. It has worked well with Synology, unRAID, and Home Assistant setups, and it has handled repeated grid to UPS switchovers without issues. The main tradeoff is runtime, since the lead acid battery is much smaller than a power station and is only expected to last a few hours at light loads. Battery replacement is also a consideration, though the cells are inexpensive to swap.

Common Questions (4)

  • Yes. It works over USB with a Synology DS918+ for automatic detection and graceful shutdown, and it also works with Unraid for all UPS functions. NUT monitoring is reported to work well, including Home Assistant integration for grid and battery status.

  • Its usable capacity is much smaller than a typical 1000Wh power station, so runtime is much shorter. A rough estimate is about 3-4 hours at a 40W load, and one comparison notes a River 3 Plus can run a home server for 2.5 hours before graceful shutdown, then keep networking gear alive for another 2 hours.

  • This listing is for the pure sine wave model. The Costco $150 unit referenced in the thread is the simulated sine wave version, while the pure sine wave version is the comparable one priced around $210 regular and about $190 in this deal.

  • Yes. The unit uses standard lead-acid batteries that are described as inexpensive and easy to replace, with replacement cost cited around $20-$30 per battery or roughly $40-$50 over a decade. That makes long-term upkeep cheaper than replacing a built-in lithium pack.

It's crazy that we've been conditioned to consider this a "deal". I bought this exact model in 2019 for $130.

I bought a Hershey's candy bar in 1983 for $.50 .... WTF does that have to do with anything. If you'd bought the same product within the last 2 or 3 months, MAYBE your comment would be relevant. As it is, you stated 2019! Factoring in just inflation over SEVEN YEARS, the product would be $170. Since I haven't found a slick deal on a time machine, I'd have to say that $50 off a $240 item is a decent deal TODAY.

do all of these UPS still just use a lead acid style battery that only lasts 3-4 years before crapping out?
Yes. Seems odd to me that Li based chemistries are not more commonly used in UPS

Yeah, it's amazing. All of these people who seem somehow blissfully ignorant of the rampant inflation we've had. Have they noticed everything else going up and they think that the UPS market is somehow uniquely shielded against inflation? Or have they simple not been paying attention to the price increases across the board for consumer goods? As stated, being that we live in 2026, it is a pretty good price.

Does the USB connection on this work with the NUT UPS monitoring software?

I have this connected via USB of the UPS to my old Synology DS918+'s USB port in the back, and the NAS detects and shuts down gracefully itself. Not sure if UnRaid requires other drivers, havent built UnRaid myself.
Not sure if the NUT broadcasts through the ethernet ports or how to configure that -- I've only used the USB ports w/o any additional driver/downloads needed.

I"ve been using the ecoflow river 3 plus as a UPS for an unraid server and another for a UPS for a mini pc and router for a while now and I've been very happy. https://www.ecoflow.com/us/river-...er-station
Fast switching, NUT UPS over USB which has been easy to use with unraid and linux, LiFePO4 batteries which give good runtime on the unraid server, and many hours of runtime for my mini pc and router, and it's designed to take an expansion battery and solar or car DC input as well.
