You're probably better off getting an impact driver with a hex drive rather than a square drive that would be used with sockets for "around the house"

I think this is more for working around cars than around the house. For ex, I needed an impact wrench to loosen the anode rod screw on my water heater, but I am not sure how this one would do.

I have an 885 ft.lb. Seesii wrench that handles such things and car/truck tires etc well. This Makita kinda falls between that and regular size 1/4" impact drivers (which is what you want for around the house).

Overkill. Don't think there's anything around the house that would use a 1/2" socket. I have the XWT14 and use it for car suspension, wheel lug bolts, stuff like that. It can do lighter around-the-house stuff, but it's larger and heavier, and you'll need adapters going from 1/2" to whatever driver bit you're using.
