Is this a type that doesn't shed a bunch of metal bristles into your food?

I find the spiral wire grill cleaners to be the absolute best. I think I've tried everything. At least on my thick stainless bar grate. I can't speak for this specific unit as the one I have I bought years ago.

I have a similar brush, probably coming from the same Chinese factory. I don't like it. The wires don't go deep into the cast iron grates and don't clean well maybe it is better for stainless steel grates, I don't know. The metal bristle brush worked miles better, but I threw it away because of the loose bristle concerns.

This is by far the worst cleaner I've used. I still use my wire brush but finish the cleaning with a chainmail padded scrubber

My experience with these, too.

I've been trying hard to like the wooden one I've been using...but it's been a struggle 😅

So my experience has been different from the last couple of posters. I've had the "GrillArt" version of this brush for the past 7 years and it's worked out great for me. Note that I mainly use it on a Weber Summit with OEM grates. I always use it on a hot grill and dunk it in a bowl of water to create some steam while cleaning.

Got a Grill Daddy on clearance from my local Costco. Much better experience then these types.

Stay away from this type of grill brush. I have them and they do not do a good job with cleaning the grates. The rounded smooth "coil bristles" just slide around the grates instead of digging into the caked on gunk. Look for other alternatives. Even those safer nylon ones are meh as they can't be used on a hot grate which is what is needed to clean the gunk off the grates.

My grill hasn't been clean since I heard about bristles breaking off. I have the Weber stainless bars and use the wood paddle but it's not as good. We need a better solution

This - get the grill hot, either wet the grates or dunk the brush in water, then let the steam help clear-away the gunk. Then a quick wipe with a cooking-oil soaked paper towel, and you're good to go.

I've used this type for years, and between the scraper and steam, don't have any issue with dirty grates.

For those concerned about build-up between - sorry, but I'm not cooking anything between the grates. If that's a concern, just flip the scraper and run it between.

Far better than injuring (or killing) someone with broken bristles in their food.

I bought a Cuisinart version of this type of brush and hate it. Also bought one of the steam type that's equally garbage. There's just no replacement for the good ol Weber bristle style, it seems everything else is a compromise.

I found it to be a waste of money as it does not do a very good job of cleaning my cast iron grates.
