Does anyone have experience with the cheap infusers that are positive? I've been waiting for the OXO one to go on sale and it looks pretty good.

Probably, but the best result I got was using filter papers. If you want reusable, you can get fine mesh filters and strainers which are better.

304 SS, AI:

It has excellent corrosion resistance in many environments but can be prone to pitting and crevice corrosion in warm chloride conditions, and it's widely used in food handling equipment, utensils,

Advantages and Limitations
  • Advantages
  • Corrosion Resistance: Performs well in many environments, making it suitable for food and chemical processing.
  • Formability: Easy to shape and weld, allowing for diverse applications.
  • Cost-Effective: Generally less expensive than other stainless steel grades like 316.
  • Limitations
  • Chloride Sensitivity: Prone to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich environments.
  • Not Heat Treatable: Cannot be hardened through heat treatment; strength can be increased through cold working.

304 stainless steel is cost-effective, highly resistant to corrosion, and easy to clean, making it an ideal choice for general food handling applications. Its durability and ability to withstand frequent cleaning also contribute to its popularity in the food industry

Coffee filters work just fine. You can also cold-clarify by cooking the oil and putting into a glass jar when it's cool enough to pour but still hot then put it in the fridge or basement to let it fully solidify, then cut off the bottom (sediment layer). Method has worked for millenia. These are extremely small for pouring anything into.

I have two. I bought this one [amazon.com] a long time ago and was gifted this one [amazon.com] at Christmas 3 years ago. Both work well. I'm not sure what an OXO infuser would have that the others wouldn't, other than a brand name and a higher cost.

oh wow never heard of this process. but how do you cut off the bottom if it's in a jar or something? I don't think oil actually solidifies in a fridge?

i've tried coffee filters. some seem to work, but most i've tried seem to filter very very slow
