This one usually gets down to around $90 on occasion. Nice knife, but still a lot of money.

Full bolster which makes it a pain to sharpen. Overpriced for what it is relative to the vast majority of cheaper options out there. You're paying for the brand and not much else.

I've had this knife for years but I don't think I'd get it again. The choil makes sharpening more difficult than it should be. If you just sharpen like normal eventually the choil will make contact with the cutting board before the heel of your knife. You have to grind down the choil of your knife or else the back of your knife can't cut all the way through.

While I like this knife despite the giant bolster it has...However at this price, you're better off getting Mercer Culinary M23510 Renaissance, 8" Chef knife for around $40-55. It holds an edge really well and feels good in the hand.

Normally If you just want a budget Chef knife, it would be easy to recommend getting the Victorinox Fibrox Pro 8 Inch Chef's Knife. They used to be a steal around $30-35, but now around $60-65, so I'd recommend the Mercer instead. Another option is the Zwilling 4-star Chef Knife if you can still find it for under $55 would also be worth getting.

Agree. Mercer is the brand used in almost every cooking school. Buy either the over molded handle of the classic handle and you will have it for years. Don't be fooled by the low price on Mercers: good steel and very well made.

I have the wide-blade version of this Wustof knife and it is spectacular (and in daily use after more than 25 years. I also have the Victorinox Fibrox 8" chef knife mentioned here and dislike it immensely. Cheap junk even at $30. I have no idea why it is a cooking magazine favorite. The current high price makes it even a stronger NOOO.

These are good knives. I prefer my Victorinox Fibrox Pro 10 as the blade is thinner and lighter. I just replaced one I have had for 12 years and left the other at work. These just feel to heavy for me and I do not like the guard at the back of the blade where I hold on. A friend at work has one of these WÜSTHOF blades and it cuts super and the extra weight pushes it right. Choices are great for finding your right fit.
