This 200 piece DeWalt mechanics set stands out for its sturdy case, secure organization, and solid all around usefulness for garage or trunk duty. The ratchets may need a little oil, but DeWalt replaced a broken ratchet after careful disassembly went wrong. The set is very heavy, and the mix leans toward screwdriver bits rather than sockets, with no wrenches included. Shipping at $28 can erase the value, so the deal works best when the delivered price stays close to the sub $100 range.
Common Questions (4)
It has sold for under $100 before, including around $85 and $98 in earlier purchases, so $99.99 is in the same range. Shipping can add $28, which may make a local Home Depot purchase cheaper.
It is not especially socket-heavy; the set includes a lot of screwdriver bits and fewer sockets than some shoppers expect. If you want a socket-focused mechanics kit, this composition may feel unbalanced.
Yes. The included case keeps the tools securely in place and is useful as an on-the-go set, which makes organization and transport easier than many similar kits.
The ratchets may need oil. If you disassemble them, the reverse gear can break, but DeWalt reportedly replaced a damaged ratchet when that happened.

Kobalt tools are also a little hit and miss. Most are decent or homeowner-grade, and that set may be alright but is mostly just little driver bits, so the piece count is pretty inflated at 302. Lowe's puts similar Craftsman sets on sale for $100, and Home Depot does comparable Husky sets all the time, too. If you just need a socket set now and then for minor stuff, any of these may be fine, but the DeWalt set is probably the best, although not the most comprehensive - no wrenches.
