This controller feels awesome from a SNES fan, but the lag with it's BT is very poor for fast platform games such as Contra, Super Mario, and Mega Man games.

Would you mind sharing what platform you are using this controller on?

I have multiple wireless controllers and I use them across many platforms (PC, Android, Switch), I've never experienced any lag unless there was a major cause for it.

On PC, I have an external Bluetooth antenna. On Android, I stay within two feet of the tablet. On Switch, I'm within six feet of the console.

FWIW, I really like this controller (small enough to travel with but still plays like a large controller) but wish it had the Xbox layout. It is easy enough to change how the controller behaves in terms of buttons, just the Nintendo labels annoys me since I live in the modern world.

I'm using an M4 Mac Mini with the newest mac OS. I also had the same experience on a friend's Windows 11 machine and a M1 iPad. Using a USB C cable fixed the lag. I use a different 8bitdo controller using 2.4ghz and it works perfectly like using this controller wired.
ETA I also tried it on my 8" ONN tablet and it still had some lag, but only really noticeable on games that require quick twitch movements. The D pad is excellent on this.

I believe 2.4ghz is much better suited for low latency/lag vs Bluetooth, just gotta be ok w/ using a plugged in USB dongle

I have the wired version. Feels okay. I think the buttons and d-pad require JUST a bit more force than the OG NES controllers. That said, it was good enough for me to play through every level of SMB for the first time in 20+ years and only feel "cheated" once or twice.
