Skip this and go for the "tool-less" version. It goes on sale for the same price and is way more convenient.

Plus with SSD pricing as it is, this would only be recommended for diagnostics or transfer.

Any long term use should be in a unit with a fan until prices go back down.

It kept overheating my ssd and i did use the thermal pads. Did I have a defective unit? I trashed it at this price and ordered an ASUS no problems with that expensive unit.

Maybe, maybe not. On my tool-less, the rubber nub doesn't hold the stick in tightly enough. Loses contact, sometimes. I ended up just using a screw, instead of the rubber nub, to hold it in.

Maybe they changed the design.

Is your cable 2-in-1? That's the new feature. The rubber nub is the same. It has no change in design. When installing, I took the board out, inserted the ssd stick, and then inserted the nub to hold both pieces (the ssd stick and the board) together. Finally, I put the whole thing back in the case (the enclosure).

The "tool-less" version still uses a screw to lock the top cover, so you still have to use a screwdriver. Only the inside is tool-less, using a rubber nub instead of a M.2 screw to hold down the SSD. I'd rather it just used a screw inside, since you have to grab a screwdriver to open the case anyway.

I bought the "tool-less" version twice in February and August for $10.64 and $10.49 respectively. The case still requires a screwdriver to open. I'd say, get whichever is cheaper.

I bought one of these last BF which I mainly use to duplicate the system drive of one of my PCs (multiple times) on an NVMe SSD in order to reuse it on a different PC and it's still going strong. Can't say enough good things a/b this enclosure.

They do make a truly tool-less model but again, that rubber nub, on my model, does not hold in the stick securely.

I have this one and it works well. The thermal pad is not bad also and the case gets very warm during constant use so it does help the ssd stay cooler.
