So it needs a homebase or can it work without it?

It'll work without but it'll supposedly have better capabilities with Homebase3

Ah okay thanks, just need an extra camera for a non-critical area and another unifi is so pricey...so this may be perfect...

You should look into whether or not this will work with your system. From what I remember, Eufy neuters the webcam's features if the RTSP feed is used

Haha I'm in the same boat with Unify and Eufy cameras. The truth is for not critical areas I don't mindt using an sd card and the native features of the cameras. The biggest drawback for Eufy is that the app does not notify if the camera goes offline.

RTSP is a dinosaur and really needs to be sunset. Most of the recent camera security issues stemmed from rtsp which was designed with an assumption of wired cameras and therefor don't have as strong security. Matter cameras can't get here soon enough with the upgrades and interoperability that they promise

Wow didn't know that, thanks.

Might just opt for a g4 instant then.

In for one. One of the very few Eufy cams left, where RTSP is supported sadly

It can function without that setup. I have encountered problems when attempting to pair it with both homebase and Apple HomeKit, as you must select only one.

Bought one to try out. It allows live viewing using the eufy app with notifications, etc and works fine. If using a SD card it can also do local recordings. It can also connect to a eufy NVR with an extra wifi module. Seems to work pretty well for my need so will probably buy 1-2 more when they are on sale again.
